Maybe I missed the thread, but can you set it to 175 deg and let it go for awhile then raise the temp? I potstill and was thinking if it ...

I pick up my malt at Midwest also. Its only used as enzymes for my mashed corn or wheat wash though.

Re: Sprouting Marris Otter after conversion?
There is very little chance of your mashtun sprouting after you did a proper mash, if you used ground malt. I believe that Dunder stated that already. A grain only has one opportunity to sprout and when the time is right it does. If it is sprouting in your mashtun it wasn't malted nor was it ground....

Re: Where to get 3" copper pipe in Mpls.
I had decided to make a pot still today and see what it cost. Went to a local menards and was out 75.00, with extra 1' and 2" pipe. The problem is the fittings add up quickly.

I personally would use the type of corn grown locally. I use good ol #2 yellow dent that is the same as traded on the CBOT.

Re: Pure corn mash turned to mush can I fix it?
Adding sugar won't convert the starch in the corn to sugar. You still need to add enzymes or malted barley to convert the starch from the corn into sugar for the yeast.Skippydo72 wrote:Thik I'll thin and add sugar.

Re: Pot still....LWTCS style
After all you did, the switch to electric will be a no brainer. Electric allows you to calculate watts and vapor speed from your amp meter. Actually total vapor volume per minute then divide by average diameter for speed. But, until you have a target vapor speed it will just be numbers. What I was ...

Re: Gift Bottles
I sell Lab supplies for a living, and everything on Amazon Supply that I looked at was at list price. My cost on 6 of those bottles would be about 75 dollars.

That old Hoff-Stevens keg needs much work, but I see you are well on your way to make it a usable piece of history. Good luck in your journey!

There is no way on God's Green Earth I would have let a woman shut down my plans! Kudo's to you for keeping it together, but there would have been words and she would have went to her Mother's for the weekend. Or at least until I ran the wash.

Trigger, I am going to use a turkey burner for the still. I have a smaller one about 55k max that I can turn down to a candle flame as needed. I would like the still to be able to run a reflux head as well as I was thinking of adding the PDA-1 head down the road to mess with a little ethanol. Thanks...

I have brewed beer for many years, and have some friends that don't have a taste for beer. (Any beer, whiskey drinkers..) I have been gatherin up materials to try my hand at some sour mash and have amassed a 15 gallon keg, 5' sch 40 SS 304, 4' SS sanitary pipe, and a 5 gallon keg. I also have a 19 g...
