Re: Continuous stripper power calculations
wash enters the column on top of the stripper, like all continuous strippers.but it shoudl be preheated by the reflux/condenser coil first and spent wash heat exchanger second (cause it's near 100C).drmiller100 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 6:21 pm
So with your stripper where is the wash added to the system? Boiler? Column? Mid column?

Re: Continuous stripper power calculations
So we can quibble, but basically all the energy to boil the water is wasted as it falls back in the boiler. And the energy to boil the water is 70 to 80 ish percent of the energy to boil the wash (the latent heat of vaporization of water is 3 or 4 ish times that of etoh.) yeah that's the main idea,...

Re: Chinese double-wall still, ordering and setup
Might talk to your local HVAC guy. I don't think that this is an uncommon problem for them. I am certainly no expert on this but I'm thinking the voltage is most important, then temperature and then the microfarads. indeed. I buy my motor caps (ie oil caps, no polarity) at the Hvac supply store, th...

Re: Still Microcontroller
it's overkill for the hobby market but if you size up a few components it could help artisan/professionals. I've built a similar arduino controller for another product and I can tell this is a very neat product (I always struggle with positionning/holding in place the electrical components). I love ...

Re: Vacuum Pumps for Vacuum Distillation
A continual vacuum needs to be pulled in any setup because the boiling off gasses at the different temperature changes that happen will decrease the vacuum pressure. you arent supposed to run an oil vane pump continuously unless you have a super strong condenser and a cold trap (weak condenser but ...

Re: SPP Machine Begins
Hello I am trying to make my own SPP but not having much luck. The wire doesn't want to peel off, it just wind on top of each other and won't peel off the mandrel. What am I doing wrong? Wrong type of wire? Wrong shape of mandrel? I tried making a square pyramid one and the a triangular pyramid typ...

Re: Reactive Distilling Techniques
Manu there is no dephlagmator and the upwards pressure is limited to the pressure created by the height of the water in the water trap so I don't have a "normal" bleeding of heads. This is the beer column you understand, not sure if I'll build a second (rectifyer?) column yet. I'm really ...

Re: Reactive Distilling Techniques
I've been looking around to see how flavour companies generate these esters for food use if not through resin. Nothing yet. I wonder about instead adding a pool of H2SO4 in the reflux area instead of resin. The boiling temp is above 300c. I'm coming at the continuous operation in a non traditional ...

I have integrated into my continuous still a port for putting mesh cartridges of Amberlyst in the vapor path. Re: Using a copper liner inside a SS column
Cut up a bunch of 3/8 copper tube into 1 or 2 inch lengths and spot solder them into a honeycomb pattern seems hard to do even if you have a spot welder. just thow your pieces of tube on top of packing I would just wrap a wire around the bundle and hit it with the oxyacetylene for a few seconds and...

Re: Using a copper liner inside a SS column
a spiral roll of copper sheet has more surface than a pipe or a simple lining. Put it on the top of the packing. 10cm roll height is enough for reflux columns.

I'd be worried that non condensable gases be trapped on the non aerated end of the condenser thereby reducing the effective condenser area.

Re: Cutting glass - Hardened, Pyrex, Quartz and plain old glass
As far as I know hardened glass = tempered glass, except for some speciality "gorilla" glass for mobile phone. so I'm surprised anyone could cut "hardened" glass without it shattering (I've had my share of explosions). Btw u can tell tempered glass by putting it in from of LCD sc...

continuous stills are the most hands off especially for larger runs Yep. Running grain in solids however still means that an operator needs to be on hand,,,,so that he'll know when to run away :lolno: Running grain in solids ? I dont understand. I have been working on a vacuum setup, Its like learning to distill all over again. Great power savings can be achieved as you need less heat to boil ethanol with minute power to obtain vacuum. The gasket looks white like PTFE, if the gasket is indeed PTFE then you should change it for silicone gasket (PTFE isnt elastic, it "creeps" ->leaks)

Very interesting. My two-cents suggestions for improving. The part of the tube outside of the microwave should be made of food-grade "anaconda" tubing, such as those produced in Germany by Anamet https://www.amazon.it/dp/B075GK4C1D/?coliid=I1V422FAH32VOJ&colid=XYLCG4GPAVKM&psc=1&a...
