My Electric Keg!

Hey just wanted to show everyone my reflux/pot still with my new keg boiler. I did a test run this weekend with water and she heats up fast. I have one 1500 and one 2500 watt water heater elements with the 1500 watt controlled with a router speed controller. I'm going to do a stripping run this week...

Another in the Family Business

I was born around the Navy bases in VA and after my Dad got out in the 70’s we moved to Parkersburg, WV where most of his and my mother’s family were located. I lived there until I graduated from high school – at this point I left and said that there was nothing on God’s green Earth that could ever ...

No Vodka Yet

Still waiting to run the potato wash through the still - short on time and long on washes needing to be run. I've stripped over 36 gallons of rum wash over the last week and a half and I have 6 gallons more to go and then we start on the potato wash or maybe the UJSM - still have 18 gallons of it wa...

I had this posted on another forum - thought that I'd share it here. Okay, I did some thinking and kind of come up with what I hope is a half way good recipe. I've started with about 25 pounds of peeled and roughly chopped potatoes (I know that a lot of people say that there's no need to peel them -...

Let me throw another dog into the fight. Went to the feed store the other day and the only thing that they had was dried cane molasses in the bag with 30% invert sugar. Can I just dilute to 15% sg and go or will I need to neutralize the acid also? Did see any info on the bag about urea. Took a pict...

High Wine Guy, couple questions, what brand of distillers yeast do you use? What is the flavor like before carbon treatment? I ask because I have a brewhaus still too. I recently distilled 75 litres of my rum mash and after a single pass through using only the 1 column I had 16.5 litres of very cle...

Recipe Update

Okay I got some news on my posted rum recipe. After running the final wash through my Brewhaus Essential Extractor PSII High Capacity column still - single pass, full reflux - and then through carbon I've got some pretty darn good rum (cut it to about 50%). I let some sit on medium toasted oak, with...

BrewHaus Still

Ok - I admit it, I broke down and bought the BrewHaus Essential Extractor PSII High Capacity unit. Yes, I know that building one is the old school method but I wanted to get a good start with something like this and then work on a larger unit in the future. I have to say that this thing is pretty! T...

Molasses

Hi - this is my first post on the forum but I wanted to help out with the rum discussion regarding the use and purchasing of blackstrap molasses. My friend, Chris Sule is the Master Distiller at Celebration Distillation in New Orleans. They make Old New Orleans Rum and man is it good stuff. They als...
