Copper Pots

Just got back from a 4 day cruise to Ensanada Mex. I saw a road side vendor selling what looked like some very nice copper pots (the tour guide said they were not too much money?)but I was on a tour buss and couldn't stop. I will go back and see if I can find him the next time I go to San Diego. It ...

I'm a novice but my condenser is 12" long by 2" copper and seems to be fine if I run slow. I will redo it sometime and make it bigger but works good for me.

Containers

As I'm working a run and being new at this I don't have a bunch of glass jars. My question is can I collect in a small jar the heads and foreshots and then transfer the good stuff from a small jars to a stainless pot or dutch oven. Then go back to the small jar for the tails. This would allow more s...

Research and Theory

While "researching" the product of my labors I got really snockered last night so I will theorize that maybe I need to cut it a little more to say 80 proof or drink more often to build up some resistance.

3rd run

Thanks to all the experts on this site. I've just finished the 3rd run UJSM and this stuff just gets better each time. I wonder ust how good is the stuff the experts make because this run is much better than the first two. 8gal of UJSM and 4th run 5 gal tomato vodka I like the UJSM and my wife likes...

Yep these are great instructions. Follow them and made my third run this time no packing and distilled some fine shine. I like the shine better than the neutral "vodka" but my wife likes the vodka better so to to the novice distillers follow these instructions they work. Great site! :)

I'm thinking about painting my reflux still flat black that way my the neighbors won't recognize it as a still but maybe think it is a Bazooka or RPG.

I said at the take off point I but I was thinking of where the vapor exits the column to the condenser. Thanks I agree it is a great answer and to think I'm from Oklahoma and we can still get along. Maybe there is someting to this new hobby. Cheers

Thanks and I think I see more clearly now It's the temp at the take off point that I'm most concerned with as far as the cuts (until I can tell the difference by taste and smell)and to get the flavor then I think I would run with out the packing as a pot still?

I'm just starting out as you can tell so neutral for now and flavored later on as I reuse the sour mash and it gets better. Also I just installed a thermometer in the boiler next to the column. I'm just getting a kick on the whole process.

Second run (w/ Fractional Reflux operation instructions)

I just finished my second run. Started with 7gals of ujsm and I have a question? My first run was the same but just a shake down run I returned all the first distill to the second run (almost all). I held my ½ Keg boiler at 165 deg for 30 minutes and the column (reflux 2inch x 3 foot with offset 15i...

Growing Yeast Steve?

I'm new here and thanks for all the great info. I read a post in the classifieds about cheap yeast and Speedfreaksteve wrote" Just take a packet of Lalvin EC-1118, add it to 2 litres of water, sugar and fruit juice (real juice), store it somewhere warm (over 20C) wait about 5 days and then you'...
