Re: Report on leeching of plastics into ethanol
I'm a little confused. In "The rules by which we live" it states "posts about any form of plastic use will be edited, deleted or locked" but this thread is allowed to continue unabated. How come?

I looked at one in a brew shop yesterday, the boiler is 2kw with no temp control. When I played dumb and asked for a quick rundown on how to drive it, the shop droid said '"just fill it up, turn it on and it works it all out itself"!

Re: Multi-plate Heat Exchanger.
Hmmm, it does have ten simultaneous vapour paths (ie each second plate), dunno about the spacing between the plates though but I imagine it'd have to be moderately wide enough to allow liquid flow.Hawke wrote:I think you would end up with it loading up before anything came through.

Re: My New Condensor
Then i think, what if the water temp is not high because the condensor is very inefficient, that it's actually vapour escaping and i just can't see it as steam? My first instinct would be to hold a small mirror over it to see if it fogs up. My second instinct would be to make sure the mirror's not ...

As far as controlling the heater element goes, you can order one of these http://www.sutronics.com/acatalog/detail_bfm240_13.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow from the UK for about $90 AUD . Drill a hole in a piece of aluminium plate to mount it, ...

Yes. BUT only if the canister is filled with copper mesh inside and around the coolant coil. This will create the required turbulence to bring the vapours into intimate contact with the coolant coil and also will also distribute cooling surfaces because the mesh is in contact with the coil and exch...

Re: New Condenser
, it makes more sense to feed the vapour into the larger chamber so it can fill that room and slow down, thus occupying the condenser for long enough that heat exchange is accomplished correctly. So in the case of a coil-in-a-liebig unit, would it be more efficient to run the vapour into the liebig...

Re: EZ In-Line Filter
The turbo yeast you're using isn't doing you any favours. Like everything in life, there's a tradeoff - with the turbo you get faster ferments but you also get unwanted flavours - lots of 'em. One hint for the SS still heads - if you cut through the column between the boiler fitting and the condense...

Yep from the suggestion on the main site, 20g of dap in 20 litres of wash at 5ppm yields .0001 grams of lead - and that's BEFORE distillation. Me, I ride motorcycles, smoke cigars, run with loose women, indulge in recreational substances and drink like a bedouin at an oasis. I'll take my chances wit...
