Infected wash run -- now what?
So, I made a whole bunch of UJSSM a while back... and being a total newbie, I didn't realize that if the wash smelled like puke, I should just toss the whole thing. Instead I went ahead and ran the lot... and kept the batch going for 5 or so cycles. The hope was that after distillation and aging, th...

Re: Barrel Mill Infusion Spiral
A similar question for y'all. I have 4.5 gallons of 65% UJSM and I am using a single infusion spiral in the jug. I ordered the spirals at the darkest toast they offer, then went at them with MAPP gas to alligator char em. If you snap one in half, only the very center is not charred. My biggest quest...

Re: trying to make UJSSM
Interesting... I watched an american show on Discovery channel called Dirty Jobs. In one of them, the host is at a microdistillery that made rum. One of the tests that the master distiller used for heads was he held a small glass about 1/2 full up to his eye, if his eye watered from the off-gas from...

Re: trying to make UJSSM
Thanks for the info gents... I do have a nixon/stone offset head. Liquid management... It is 2" column x 34" with a 3" x 13" offset head. Inside the offset is a 9" double helix condenser coil. Reflux return is via a valved 3/8" feed. Take off is a 1/4" valved feed....

trying to make UJSSM
Hey all, I have been trying to make UJSSM. I have a offset head reflux still that does a great job when run as a reflux still (as opposed to pot still mode). In the original post, Jesse says he used a reflux or fractionating still to get his shine. I read elsewhere that he basically "detunes&qu...

Re: Pigroasters new optimal profile for oak aging sticks
Pigroaster... you say "Do not use kiln dried oak." How come? Our local lumber store had some white oak for about $2.00 a bf. Quite a deal...

Help me chill out!
Hey folks! Well, I have a question that I need ya'll's help on. I have a nixon-stone offset head still. My boiler is a standard SS keg with a propane burner underneath. When I first started, I read the .pdf on how to make the offset head design and decided right off to modify the condenser coil. My ...

Hey all!
Long time lurker, first time poster. Much to my amazement, I found my self enthralled by the notion of making my own vodka/gin. I have lots of friends who are seriously into brewing beer, but I am not a beer or wine drinker... so I found myself here. I downloaded my copy of the "building a worl...
