Veterans

Today, in the U.S. (and in the Republic of Texas :) ), it is Veterans Day. A day set aside on the calendar for the rememberance of those who have honorably served in our military. Often lost in the tradition is the rememberance of the Veterans other Countries. Today my hat is off to any and all of y...

Re: Eradicating Leaf Cutter Ant Mound?

If you go through with the bleach idea, you could make some nasty chlorine gas or a few chloramines by pouring vinegar or ammonia (or both) down the holes first. I wouldn't try this if it was extremely close to the house, though, and I wouldn't do it around neighbors . Oh, I LIKE that idea! It is a...

Not yet, but it's on my list.

You can purchase pre-innoculated wood that will grow shitake and others, not too pricy either. Just toss them out in the woods and wait. Supposed to be nothing to it.

Re: Eradicating Leaf Cutter Ant Mound?

Love the explosive ideas! Unfortunately too close to the house. My Uncle once poured gasoline down a hole he saw a rattlesnake go into, then lit a match at it. Blew a crater in the ground under his feet and knocked him flying. Killed the snake though. :D Anyone ever try, or heard of, hooking a hose ...

Eradicating Leaf Cutter Ant Mound?

I have a leaf cutter ant mount growing on my property. At the moment it covers about 500 SF of area.

Any ideas on how to eradicate?

Thanks!

Most dear is my great grandfather's single barrel shotgun that would probably fall apart if anyone ever shot it. Re: diesel injection pump...

Used to place a rag over the intake and then squirt canned starting fluid onto the rag, get the engine running on the ether and keep giving it little shots as needed to keep it going. Eventually the diesel comes up and takes over. Unless the pump is bad that is. This also works on really cold days w...

Re: anybody here know anything about heat pumps or A/C?

Another way to look at it is to reverse the process. Decide what apparatus you are going to drive with the stirling engine, then figure out how many ftlbs of torque you will need to drive it. Now take that information and determine the size of the stirling engine that can provide that kind of torque...

Re: anybody here know anything about heat pumps or A/C?

I may not be following you, correct me if I am not. You want to remove heat from a source, then boost that heat up higher. You can certainly do that, but you can not boost it up higher without a commensurate amount of energy being inserted into the loop. Using an AC to do that, if I understand your ...

Re: anybody here know anything about heat pumps or A/C?

Basically, just turn it around. As you know a heat pump is an AC unit that faces inward during the winter and outward during the summer, simply speaking. You pull the heat out of the house in the summer and dump it outside. You feel the hot exahust at the condenser.

Bug out bag, yep. Possibles bag is an older way of saying it. I would guess that most people into home distilling are probably survivalists in some fashion and to some degree. The fireplace may be largely decorative - I have been reading up on wood gas generators and am thinking about incorporating a wood gas generator to provide heat, and use the off gassing to drive an electric generator. The History of Philosophy. Pretty interesting but slow at times. I read a couple of chapters, put it down an polish off a good old murder mystery, then pick it back up. I have built a few small wooden boats. It is amazing how much of a gap will disappear when a boat is soaked in water. My very first boat sank right off.
