Re: Best Hotplate Locally
Fair enough - I knew the best way to do it, I was on a short timeline for my plan this week. Free time is rare, so I must make the most of it. The link for HillBilly was great! There's a lot more out there than when I built my still about 4-5 years ago. I did buy a used hotplate - Same thing but an ...

Re: Best Hotplate Locally
Lowes/Homedepot is local. Or a restaurant supply. The domed bottom didn't matter very much in my first attempts. The edge of the keg sat on the hotplate surface, and the burner was very close, but not touching the keg bottom.

Re: Fwd: Counterfeit Spirits (YOU WILL BE CAUGHT)
This is likely a scare tactic. I'm sure it's legit for people trying to counterfeit large scale. Just like encrypted rfid tags in designer purses. The argument for loss of tax revenue is so far off the mark that its offensive. I buy local fruit and veggies, yeast, water, propane, honey... It costs m...

Best Hotplate Locally
I'm needing to setup for indoor runs this winter. I ran my still with an old hotplate a few years ago, but it was a PITA, though it worked great. Any feedback for a locally available hotplate that will fit a Miller 15.5G Keg in the US (Lowe's, Home Depot, restaurant supply)? I'm not in a place to pu...

Re: Indoor Finishing Still?
I'm just getting back into it - So a little behind on my education. Sorry for the rudimentary questions. I think I'm going to make a stripping head that I can run outside, and use the Boka head inside on electric. The first couple times I used it I did it indoors with great success, but I opted for ...

Re: Indoor Finishing Still?
That's what I figured. Perhaps time for an industrial hotplate and move inside.

Re: Distilling smell
For me it's a faint alcohol smell while running. Cleaning out the rest of the boiler creates clouds of funky vapor that fly downwind(especially in cold weather). I'm in an urbanish area and have never had any problems emptying the boiler in the front yard though.

Indoor Finishing Still?
Long tome reading and distilling, but haven't been here for ages. Currently I'm running a 2" Bokabob about 4' high. After the first run I'm getting 170-180 proof, but is needs a second run. I'm thinking about making a small stove top model to do the finishing runs, rather than sitting in the ga...

I'm talking about spirits, in specific. I know of some Gluten free beer, and they suck. Gluten does survive the distillation process. If the people drinking it are really sensitive to it like the ones I know it's a bad scene. I'm just looking for input on spirits that are known to be gluten free to ...

so I assume my freezer didn't -75F. But it did turn into a slurpee consistency. BirdWatcher, that is a really sweet story. Meeting JT and talking drinks. I'll try it asap. I already ruled out vermouth as a martini ingredient. But I always went Bond Style. Big Grapefruit fan too. Did you discuss a pr...

Tanqueray Slush
So the fan in my freezer that blows cold air into the fridge broke, so I turned the freezer on coldest, so it would keep the fridge cold enough. I didn't open either for a couple days, till the replacement fan showed up. When I did open the freezer a half full bottle of gin in there had almost froze...
