Rod, I've used that carbon sugar mix (Turbo Sugar) as it was part of my newbie pack I got with the still. Don't really know if it does much good - just makes the sediment a nice grey colour.

I'm doing my first stripping + reflux run after starting off on turbos. I've got 20L @~40% to which I've added 20 Tablespoons of bicarb. soda 1. Can I expect all of the bicarb soda to be used up? I mix it up twice a day and it all seems to disolve no problem, just wondering if it will gradually disa...

I'm part of the SS Super Reflux clan as well. Although now that I've started I'm more of a perfectionist and I want to get that 95% so at some stage I'm going to look at building my own with a larger column. My ceramic saddles pack had more than enough for the column too. My still takes around 1h30m...

I ran both queries and for the first 3 pages at least they gave the same results (couldn't be bothered checking after that!). In fact they both returned 117 results so I suspect they are doing the same search. I find it is much easier to tack "site:homedistiller.org" onto the end of the qu...

Thanks HookLine - I thought I was going a bit crazy for a second.

Just incase any one else is interested I typed the following query into google and it looks like it may have done the trick: "still spirits" site:homedistiller.org

Not so much froth now - more like surface foam. Is there any harm in having it under an airlock at this stage? I'm guessing that there is no O2 getting to the wash anyway even with the lid sitting loosely on it. SG has gone from 1.08 -> 1.06 -> 1.05 after 2.5 days. The colour is now a dull pink rath...

I think the health food stores in NZ must be the same as in AUS - different to a health food store in the US. The only place I could find 'fresh yeast' was from the home brew shop (Lavlin EC1118) which was only $2.95 but it's a bit of a hike from where I am so I've stuck with the supermarket ingredi...
