Re: Busted
Well, now to get a taste of corn, I have to go to the ABC store, Thats OK. After this blows over,I will get another distilling unit. I enjoy the hobby, and since it happened on a fluke, they won't be looking for me. I am a minnow in the frying pan. But if you want to mail me a jar....LOL....I'm kidd...

Re: Busted
Thanks for all of your comments. Luckily, it is a misdemeanor charge. The idea about using liqour bottles to store your stash in is good. I miss my corn likker so much, I bought some (legal) just to have a sip,and plan to save those bottles. Smells and tastes the same,so, who's to know. The thing is...

Re: Busted
My sentiments exactly Wineo, pick on people who are doing hard drugs and committing crimes to support there habit, not us small home-brewers who hurt no-one, just like the home brew better than store-bought.

Re: Busted
What I miss more than anything is not having my shine. As I said it is a misdemeanor, I only had a quart of 180 proof. But they took my still!!!!! Now I have to get another one. Just like Popcorn Sutton, once it gets into your blood you can't quit.

Well, it is official, the cops came by and took the still, a bucket of mash and all other brewing paraphanalia, and stash. They stopped by for something else, but, they got the still, a misdemeanor charge, the more they want to fuck with me for a little home-brew the meaner I get.....Dammit,now I ha...

I was at the local feed/grocery a few weeks back and an ol'timer was in there and said flirting with the young cashier, that he didn't know about that, but, he did know how to make moonshine. She giggled, and then it was my turn at the counter. Not wanting to expose myself, I joked that I thought th...

Apples and cinnamon were in the mash....If I made any more, I would have too much to drink, and knowing me, this could be a problem  I am getting ready to run off another batch..Last time I pulled the 1st 100ml off and just dished the tails, and it was smooth as Jack and gave no hangover.... I fermented 60% Corn, 30% Malted Barley, 10% Oats. Added Sugar for higher ABV, and ran it off today. It is good. Also had some apples and cinnamon added in for flavor. Got 1 gal 80 proof of of first run off of 6 gal. wash. Anyway, the bottom line is that my likker is good, I throw away way to much f...

Right, as I have said before, I beleive the ATF in the US have more important matters to take care of than to spend there time on the small- time kitchen top distiller making brew for his personal consumption, as well as the guy who buys a 1/4 oz of weed for personal consumption. When they go fishin...

Well, all this may be true....but for me,I don't think they are going to come busting down my doors for a little 5 gal still. I think they have bigger fish to fry. Also very few people know that I make it, and they all enjoy the products of my hobby. So, I will continue to make my home-brew, regardl...

Yes it is illegal to operate a still to produce likker in the USA, but, my personal opinion, (we all know what opinions are) is that small stills that produce for home consumption, are not going to have the revenue'rs knocking down there doors. They are interested in illegal distilleries producing i...

I pretty much do the same, I cook the corn until it thickens the wash, then I let the temp go down to around 160 F and add the malted barley, (I use Golden Promise 2 row) and some flaked oats. I let this simmer until the wash thins out. I also add some sugar and molasses, and my secret ingredients. ...

When using cracked corn, I rinse it until the water runs clear. During this process husk and other material will float to the top. I strain this off. What I end up with is some nice clean cracked corn, with very few visable impurities. Maybe I am just paranoid, but think this also washes away any ch...

As far as being stupid is concerned, I think I take the cake. I was saying that my 3rd run of UJ was not as good as the first and was going back to straight whiskey. Well I went back to the recipe and found I was saving the lees, not the backwash. So here I go again on second attempt at UJSM....

I use 5 gal white food grade plastic buckets and have had no problems. Also there are 6.5 gal buckets available which are nicer as you can put 5 gal of mash in without puking into the air-lock. I use the little plastic air lock I get at the brew store for 80 cents, and a rubber grommet, drill a hole...

That makes sense Worm, but what I really want to know is this: You have your wash, say, 18% ABV. It seems to me it would have a certain finite amount of all the different alcohols in it. After you extacted all the alcohol in the 60 degree range, there would be no more methanol to cook, and as long a...

Air, like water is going escape through the way of least resistance. What kind of air-lock do you have and what is the ambient temp? What kind of yeast? Have you checked your Specific Gravity? I doubt that your mash stopped bubbling because of a leaky bucket top, they are generally tight. Just my op...

Distilling Temps
For the past couple runs, after running at 78 for a couple hours, the temp would for no apparent reason drop to the mid- 60's. My question is this: when the temp drops, does this produce more methanol, or has all the methanol cooked out at the beginning of the process? In other words, if I ran the s...

My 3rd run of sourmash is off the still, and it is ....good. But, I poured all my backwash into the compost. So, now I have to start all over. Two years ago, I lived in Tampa, Florida, living there for 20 years, leaving NC in 1987 for the excitement of hot women, motorcycles and living in paradise. It was all of the above, but at the age of 57, the palm trees were nice, the women weren't so hot anymore, and neither was I, doing the biker t...
