Re: Just bought me a still...
It's not really a pot still. This would be a cm reflux still. Not a good one. It that's what it is. Here maybe this thread will help you. Better Operation of a Brew Shop CM Still (novice guide) http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=13264 That is a very interesting read, thanks for...

Junglejuice I am basically a positive person, hope you find your answers while researching this site but please be ready and take as a learning experience when you receive the comments coming about turbo yeast and 20% abv. :silent: I would prefer not to use a Turbo wash if I can find a receipe/meth...

Re: Just bought me a still...
Did you buy from ebay or a HBS you should have some sort of instuctions on how to use it or the shop should have given you at least a crash coarse in how but do some reading here anyway and you will learn heaps from the mentors on this site take notes and listen to there advise and wealth of knowle...

Just bought me a still...
Hi guys last time I was on here I was using a Still Spirits air still and got jumped on pretty quick about it being crap so today I bought me a "real" still... This is a pot still, correct? So far I have been trying to make a neutral spirit to flavour into bourbon primarily but occassional...

Re: G'day from downunder
I tried the link just after it was posted but something went wrong (stupid computer or too much homebrew) and it just sent me to another part of the forum. That other part of the forum you refer to is the New Distillers Reading Lounge, which is essential reading to give you a better understanding o...

Re: G'day from downunder
First! Welcome to the forum! Now the hard part. Go dig a hole in the back yard. Wrap the air still in some old newspaper. Place in pre-dug hole. Play Tapps on rented buggle. Cover hole and go to local hardware store and buy materials for a pot still. With a little reading on your part, you can make...

Re: redistilling leftovers
JJ, you asked what's missing. What's missing is that you don't listen. What exactly do you want us to tell you???? OD has given you two links and you're not reading them. You bought a device which isn't very efficient. There's nothing you can do about it cos you have already stated that you won't s...

Re: G'day from downunder
Welcome JJ. That's the first thing that you have learnt. Never believe the local home brew shop, They're there to take your money as easily and as fast as they can. They'll tell you that you have to buy this product, then you will need that product and then some of this and on and on it will go. Th...

Re: Airstill Rundown for Newbies, by a Newbie
I am having similar issues with my airstill, the shop I bought it from just push turbo everything, I guess I am ignorant as I don't even know how else to do it or what "inverted sugar" is at the moment, any wonder my stills output has odours.....

Re: G'day from downunder
Is that because of methanol in the output? I was told by the store that airstills don't produce any methanol......

I get 20% the second pass and 5% on the third.....Ayay wrote:If you can get alc out of the leftovers then the first stillin run was very inefficient. Maybe an air still can achieve such an inefficiency?

Re: Filtering question
First off, no selling. Mistakes can be fixed by stillin again. Carbon filters have their uses but they should never be the primary fix. Carbon will not make an air still better. Your primary fix is found in the information contained within this site and it's available to all who take the time to si...

Re: G'day from downunder
So far I can't even work out what type of still I have (ie CM, LM or VM) cause with the airstill I have no control, I pour in wash turn it on and out comes alcohol, it is the filtering of this output that I am wanting to improve to remove the odour (if possible) and if I can't then cest la vie..... ...

Re: redistilling leftovers
Hi JJ, What's left in the boiler after the stillin is not worth stillin again. Why is this? I get 20% alchohol from this that tastes better when made up then the first pass output does..... What's left in the boiler can be used for topping up the next brew for carrying forward some of the concentra...

redistilling leftovers
Hi all I have a Still Spirits brand Turbo Airstill and I was experimenting with it after my first use with the residue/leftovers (whatever you want to call it) from the distilling process, so I refilled to the 4 litre line with this residue and redistilled it, the original output was measured at 800...

Filtering question
Hi all, I am new on here, I recently purchased a Still Spirits brand Turbo Airstill (before anybody says anything I am not selling it) as well as the Still Spirits brand carbon filter unit. I am trying to make some nice drinks with it, I like bourbons, Southern Comfort, butterscotch schnapps etc. My...
