Re: medium cracked feed corn safe to use?

yeah the cracked is fine. if you have a mill you can run it through once more to get a 'fresh' cracked surface. does aid in adsorbtion if you're cookin too..

Re: French Oak Aged UJSSM??? Anyone Try It???

Made me too thirsty to see them jars. Do you recall what ABV you were working with? yeah. that was at 62.5% (125 proof) That experiment was on how much chips per quart.. as you can see.. color was pretty much identical. I followed a distress aging process afterward with an 80deg F swing for about. ...

Re: 1/4 keg thumper

just a thought, if you CAN, get a 1/4 TALL pony keg for a thumper. the smaller diameter allows for a larger height of vapor travel through the thumper fill, which contributes to concentration of the vapor. Shallower, and you end up with shorter vapor contact times with the thumper charge. Might be u...

Re: Grinding/Cracking/Gristing Whole Corn

im interested in it because what little i've been able to get run through my 2s looks very good and fresh compared to the cracked stuff i've done. Husks stay pretty much intact. However. Crankandstein sells the 220c which i'll upgrade to which can do whole con.

anybody come up with a solution for this? I'm thinking about getting a hardwood dowel for my crankandstein for one of the rollers that's slightly smaller diameter to help with whole corn..

Re: A plague of copper

if fittings are too spendy, notch the tube and braze it together. i posted a software proggy in my evilstill 3.0 thread that will let you input tubing sizes and print out templates to make cuts. I would use judicious filing to ensure a tight fit before I burned it in though.

Re: EvilStill 3.0

Ok. Shotgun 2.0. Built as mentioned above. Cut the tubes 22" instead of 18, you could stagger by 1/4" each tube shorter than the one before it to make threading the thing easier.. Start with a pattern, a punch, a pilot bit, a 3/8" bit and a countersink (not shown) http://i285.photobuc...

Re: EvilStill 3.0

yeah. this next one all mating surfaces will be hit with acetone to clean them of any oils. Basic design theory is this: 18" x 2" copper tube. Predrill this for your water inputs. 2 2" caps - These will be drilled to 3/8"ths, then a countersink will be used to slightly increase t...

Re: EvilStill 3.0

on the pinhole, I'm pretty darn sure its the result of an airchannel forming or some dirt/burned flux that didnt get completely cleaned off around the outer edge where the plate and the pipe meet. It's so tiny that all that flows is a drip or 3 a minute.. but thats enough to screw it up. I've got an...

Yeah, nice build. Ditto. Looks nice and should make some good stuff! Great illustration for a new member trying to cope with the realization that there are no plans for a pot still here and definitely nicer than a store bought. There are no plans because it's dead simple. There are no valves to wor...

First thing you need to do is get rid of those two 'reflux lines' running through your column.

Output at full bore from the alco run was 65% :) I'm also sold on cotton t-shirts as gaskets.. Also, are gaskets needed on unions? a couple dripped no m...

Have you made this recipe before? If you have, and have some left, you can do a comparison. My experience with bicarb is though use in my thumper. It does 'clean-up' harshness to a degree as well as neutralizes any acidic vapors (vinegary flavors) that might come over from the boiler if your wash ha...

Re: To stir or not to stir....

Well.. It really doesnt matter.. hot backset will pretty much kill anything in your fermenter and dissolve your sugar too. I suggest a pour from the bucket into your fermenter that agitates the leftover yeast/settles.. same as stirring.

actually.. you dont need plates. 85% is hittable with a simple potstill (thumper increases chances).. Save yourself some effort for little ROI..

If you really want to build a plate bok, be prepared to run at least a 4" column.. Anything else is too small to be easily built. YMMV
