safety question: whats a safe and enviromentally friendly way of disposing of heads? I keep em till i get about a gallon, and dump em in the pickup truck with about a half tank of gas. Its virtually the same thing as "Heet". Thats the stuff thats sold in nearly every convienience store in...

Is there a way you can create a drain at the top for the hot to run out of the bucket as cold is being entered into the bottom? Heat rises. You may have gone to the other side that husker talked about in the 1st reply. If your water is hot to the bottom of your bucket, now your vapor is defintly not...

I think Id back off on the continuous flow of water and only add it when needed. If possible plumb it in from the bottom like husker said originally, or just put the hose to the bottom of the bucket and add slowly so you dont stir it up much. Dont add any for the first part of your run and rub your ...

I dont' think it could be heat exchange issue...because the water is not still/static...but is connected to sink with constant flow of cool water. And, if that were the case (condensor being overpowered), then lowering the water level would make it worse...not better. Then your making a clo...

Husker has nailed this. I had the same problem with my first rig. Small diameter coils have to work harder to cool because they have less surface area to do the job. I would like to add that it is caused by the temp of your vapor being higher in the late stages of the run. (Your getting closer to bo...

Just thought of something else. When you got your carbon, did you boil water and soak it repeatedly till all of the oils were removed from the carbon? If not that may have caused the colors in your spirit like your talkin about.
Just a thought.

In my early days of this hobby, I tried what your talkin about. I wasnt satisfied with my product so I filtered it. I didn't have the problem your talkin about. But I, by no means, am the authority on the topic. I only tried it 1 time and figured cuts was the answer for me. Good clean copper, in my ...

I believe that the copper reacts with carbon and causes a colour change to the spirit (green or blue?) please do a search on this site before starting. I was searching 'carbon filtering' a few days ago and found it. If your getting blue and or green spirit when running thru copper, your copper is d...

Yeah your right on with the CO statement. Most folks around here are pretty amazed, but still proud, they got to the big game after the mediocre season they had. Theres nothing in particular wrong with your grain bill. Its just that you said you got 6 gallons from 10 gallons and that just aint gonna happen on a stripping run without gettin into water. Any number of minerals from your well water can precipitate out when you dilute your alcohol. Typically it would be calcium and magnesium salts which are less soluble in water/alcohol mix than they are in straight water. Your choices are to filter it as you've done, ignore it, or change to using di...

I realized today that over the course of my lifetime I've stashed away about 4.5 U.S. gallons of pennies in an old plastic water jug. No clue what they're worth but the thing is quite heavy.
