Good to know. I did a 25L wash and after the stipping run I added 10L of dunder back into a fermenter and made up another batch with that. So I'm steadily working away at building up a good dunder pit.

Re: Hook Rum

I've just run my first batch of this - never done a molasses wash before, so this was all new to me. After the stripping run, it smelt like apple pie and was pretty nasty. Then after the spirit run it still has a lot of that smell to it. I have the jars airing and will leave them for 24 hours before...

Re: Better Operation of a Brew Shop CM Still (novice guide)

I've got one of these still spirits super reflux condensers and I've just started doing a stripping run after taking out the packing and re-jigging my water lines. My question is - for a stripping run, do I really need to run any cooling water at all? If it's operating in pot still mode, can't I ju...

Calling the rum-essence experts!

I've managed to find an rum essence to mix with my neutral that tastes very close to what I am after, however I'm now finding that my neutral isn't harsh enough for the purpose. I drink rum & coke, and I'm ending up having to mix almost twice as much of this rum with my coke otherwise the drink ...

Re: To clear or not?

http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=15489 Ah yep, now I understand what this vinegar business is about. The still is actually one that has been used by the friend who gave it to me, but I still gave it a good clean last weekend and ran some cheap vodka through it to clean it out...

Re: New guy from Oz

Hi rad, thanks for the greetings! As for my still, I got given a 25L Still Spirits still with the super reflux condenser. My original wash I have detailed just now here: http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=22830" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel=&...

To clear or not?

So I put down my first wash about 7 days ago. I decided to do a basic wash pretty much following the advice of the homebrew shop guy knowing that the first batch won't be the best by far. This way I can compare successive batches as I make changes for the better. I used a Essencia Super 6 Ultra Pure...

New guy from Oz

Hey all, I'm new here - been reading up quite a bit over the last couple of weeks and have started my first wash. I'm from Australia where this sort of thing isn't exactly encouraged, so this site has been really helpful for me.

Looking forward to some great results!
