tap water
Hi all. I have a question about using city tap water for my mash. I usually use a spring but living in PA my spring is covered with snow from the plow truck and I have no way of accessing it can I use city water or not and what are the effects of using city water?

Re: Stripping Run in a Potstill w/ a Parrot...
When you get down to the 40-50% range do you take all that you ran from 80% down to 40% and mix them together. I have been told that my "shine" is really good and smooth but I stop @ 70% and use the rest for tails. Am I doing right stopping @ 70% or should I go lower? Thanks, City Shiner

Re: My cut from body to tails is often in the 40-50% abv ran
Strippin' Run: Run it fairly quickly. Collect EVERYTHIN', makin' no cuts till the output drops to 20% or less. Spirit Run: Run it soft and slow. Collect and discard foreshots. (200 ml per 5 gallons of mash/wash with a potstill.) Run still slowly and steady. In a 15 gallon, or smaller potstill a goo...

Ok so I'm kinda doing a UJSM. It's 90% corn and 10% malted barley. How many times can I reuse the barley. I know that I can use the corn up to ten times.

Re: All Grain Wheat Whiskey
I do a all 100% wheat and it is fine. I use the Gerber wheat baby food. I use 1 box per 5 gallons of water. very tasty. I double distill it till its coming out @ 70% ABV and then dilute it to 40% ABV. Put it in quart jars and use 15 grams of toasted oak chips per quart. Let it sit for at least 2 wee...

I have been making a 15 gallon wash out of corn. My SG is averaging 1.06 1.07. My FG is always .98 I am getting 2.5 gallons of 40%ABV out of 1 15 gallon wash. Just wondering How am I doing? Is this about right or am I way off?

Re: The No Boil Corn Mashing Method
Hi all. I have 2 questions. (1) This is my first try at a non sugar wash and was wondering I have a 2 inch deep section of a white fine sediment on top the mash and was wondering if this is normal and what is it? (2) Can this mash be reused for a 2nd generation? As always thanks for the help. City S...

I am using sweet feed for my mash and someone told me that the old fashioned way to make shine didn't have any sugar. Is this correct and if so how would I go about making it with sweet feed and no sugar?

I don't know if this is the right spot or not but my question is-Is there a good or easy way to dilute from 170 proof down to 100 proof? Maybe a chart or guide on hoe much water to use?

Have 5 5 gallon buckets going with sweet feed and 4 of the 5 were @.99 in 3 days. I have the fifth one that is really taking its time. Started them on April 2 and #5 is still way high on hydrometer.
