Hey Guys, watch this..... The exploding keg trick was tried by some Drunks near our BoyScout camp. They were heating up the keg to try to get the "ball" to pop put and shoot up in the air. (they were drunk). Apearently, the ball didn't pop out right away, and they los interest, the keg sti...

Howdy. I'll add $0.02. I add backset to my rum like Absinthe. I also add a whole squezed lemon to my boiling sugar /molassas mix. In a potstill: I strip 2-3 runs, and then for the spirit run, I top off the still with fermented rum wash. This seems to give a richer flavor to the stuff at the expense ...

Wow. I was just going to ask if anyone has made a Coffee type VM still for stripping runs (of clarified, all liquid washes/mashes), and here it is. I would only use a rig like this for stripping runs, and then make cuts on a potstill, or run the rig in traditional VM style. I don't really trust the ...

Some of my best whiskeys are from all tails runs. That being said, they come from washes made mostly from grains, and only the occasional addition of refined sugars. If I do all tails, I try to do it from all of one kind of wash (ie; all bourbon or all barley, dont mix the rum tails and the whiskey ...

If your worried about getting alcohol in your (mechanical vane) pump's oil, and screwing it up, then MAYBE you could use Fomblin or some other synthetic in addition to a trap....but the stuff is pricey.

For all molassis, be sure not to make it too thick. molassis has some sugars that give varying results with different yeasts. As far as inverting, the lemon/lime/other citrus also adds some trace nutrients other than just the acid. Holding off on the sugar and doubbling the molassis seems to take lo...

Thanks, I wish I had someone give a comparison of these before I was dissapointed by the flavors available at my brewshop. Of course I Potstill only, but my first experiments were with flavored sugar washes. I'll probably stick to mashin ( at least for "whiskeys"), but thanks none the less.

I would never the glass directly with flame, but only in a doubble boiler
(immersed in a pot of boiling water).

I had a few bad experiences with heated glass, and breakage , some involving alcohol.

Please do not heat glass with flame, especially if filled with flamable stuff.

If you are doing strippng runs, just fill it up 3/4 and then add the remainder of wash in with the spirit or next stripper. It's not the end of the world, rather it is just inconvenient. Have not tried it (I leave the labels on and tape on new ones) yet, but acetone takes apart lots of epoxies and other organics and glues (from personal experiences).

Rinse off the acetone (leaves a film after it dries/evaporates) with isopropal/propanol or methanol or ethanol.
Good Luck.
