I had a BW wash in the refrigerator for 4 weeks. Took it our for 1 week to make room for something else. No problem.

Re: What to do with Heads feints
Try a feint run for yourself and see. I enjoy the product I get from a feint run. I run a pot still, single run. Comes out at 120 proof. Feint run comes out 160 proof. Interesting taste that oaks very well for me.

Re: The Walking Dead
I watched the first 2 episodes, very tense. Definitely not for the squeamish. If they are all rotting away, how do they stay together? Seems like parts of them would be falling off, fingers, legs, arms. Why do they eat flesh!! Their guts are dead. Very strange show, but will watch some more episodes.

Re: FIRST REAL RUN
I'm fortunate in that I have my own refrigerator (separate from wifey)! I pour off my finished wash into a 5gal bucket, not being especially careful about getting the trub in with the wash. Put the 5gal bucket in the refrig for 3 days, or more if I'm busy. When I pour that off into my boiler, the tr...

Re: what do YOU use as nutrients!!!
I put my washes in the refrigerator to clear. After 3 days there is a "trub" of junk on the bottom. I'm assuming it is yeast. I boil that and add it to the next wash. Never saw the air lock bubble before like it does now with that trub. It is just a solid stream of bubbles with no hiccups ...

Re: first SF run in pot still
That's all that I have is a pot still. I still take a little fores off like 4oz instead of 8, best not to be greedy. A full boiler charge of feints gets a LOT more usable product than a straight spirit run of a wash, surprisingly more. And HOT, as in ABV. My pot puts out 135 ABV on a wash run and 16...

Re: first SF run in pot still
thanks for the info guys. how much would you consider the middle or hearts of the run? Something you have to figure out yourself. I tasted and tested many batches and now I know to keep a half gallon for aging and a half gallon for feints on a 5 gal charge. But that is my still and I know how it ru...

Re: first SF run in pot still
I keep the middle stuff for aging. The rest goes into the feints jar. Feint runs generate some very tasty whiskey when run on their own, for me anyway.

Mine is at roughly 45*, but that is only to get it to my collection jar. It could have been any angle far as I was concerned, just so I got it to the jar.

I've been doing mine like that for the past year with no discernible effects. After 2 or 3 months I move the product to 1.5L wine bottles with corks.qball wrote:Again, the rubber seal is flipped up so that it's not exposed to the liquor inside.

Re: about my keg still
You really can't "keep" a temperature. You can't raise temp above a boil and the boil temp will vary depending on how much alcohol is in the wash. You probably meant "to keep a boil".yiw1z4rdcom wrote: to keep it about 173..

Re: Heat input vs. time for spirit run
is it a reflux still ? if yes set it to full reflux and just wait till the column heats up and stabilizers if pot then you often "hear" the boiler come to the boil (mine sort of quietens down) and you know it's just about time :) My first still was a thin walled SS and it made a real rack...

This last one of mine is just the opposite. Started AB.Gen7 on Friday. In 10 min it was bubbling. 20 min it was a steady, no burping stream of bubbles (got a tube into a 2l bottle of water). Went to the shed today to have a look, still uninterrupted stream of bubbles. When I put it together I did us...

Re: New Member With questions after running 1st Wash
The internal temp of the liquid seemed to be easy to control You can't control that temp. It's a function of the alcohol and water solution mixture ratio. Alcohol boils at a lower temp than water. As the alcohol boils off the temp rises getting closer to water boil temp. Wouldn't matter much how mu...
