Re: Distilling oils
I'm sorry if I offended or undermined you or anyone else with my comments. I'm attempting to start up a small business, the lack of time is very stressful. I do not have the time to learn everything I need to know to make a still through research. I need the help of the members of this forum. I was ...

Re: Distilling oils
Well at least we've established pressure can build up. Thank you for the solution. Doesn't coil angle and length also effect pressure?
I want to minimize the amount of vapor lost. What condenser design is best for that?

Re: Distilling oils
I know I read something about back-pressure caused by too shallow an angle for the condenser. I also would assume that even at a small boil, going from a large diameter, like a stock pot, with only a small diameter outlet ( i'm thinking of using copper refridgerant tubing from lowes, its about a hal...

Distilling oils
I am distilling various plant material for making essential oils. These oils are not meant for human consumption or direct contact. They are going to become fragrance additives for aromatherapy products. I am unconcerned with speed of distillation. If it takes all day, it takes all day. I am also un...

Alright cool, I like that idea. I’m alittle lost when you say “Drop the coil in the bucket and seal the output with silicone.” I’m not really sure what you mean by that. And is the coil supposed to be the column or the condenser? Tracker; I’m not really planning on cutting out the heads or tails. I ...

that's really cool. but i don't have the tools to do it. it's also a bit big. is there any reason the column has to be completely vertical? Could I use a spiraling column? I was thinking for the condenser instead of using a radiator looking thing that guy has, I could bubble the remaining vapor thro...

Small still
I want something small and cheap to make for distilling 2 or 4 liters into a fairly high concentration with as little alcohol wasted as possible. I don't have any tools aside from a soldering iron and a basic tool kit. So I can't do any welding or anything requiring a vice or workbench or specialty ...
