How long did you have the white dog soaking on the chips?
I did mine for too long and ruined the batch I was attempting. So any assistance with times would be great.

Re: Jack daniels smoking chips
Well, I didn't use many chips in the jar, but it has taken on a light/medium colour and has a slight taste of burbon.
I'm going to let it sit another 10 days and see if it gets any stronger.
does anyone have an idea on the best percentage to soak chips with alcohol?

Re: Jack daniels smoking chips
I'll try some of mine.
I basically had some spirit left over from a sugar wash, I chucked some chips in a jar with the alcohol @ 60%
Its been soaking for 11 days.

yeah I agree, its all down to practice and experience.
I've done a UJSSM now with the Reflux head and De-refluxed head, they were ok. I got a pot setup for my still now and I'm running it as I type, after the first tastes its mighty fine

I really want to get into using a barrel, but figured that if I can get it to taste nice with chips, then I'll purchase a barrel.

Thanks for that fellas. I notice with my de-refluxed column, that its very hard to keep the temps down, its actually at 84C on the thermometer. Holding steady. Its just a first run, might have to knock up a pot still head for the still I think. If the refulx packing was in there, it would hold stead...

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
thanks for the heads up trthskr4 The still I have is pretty basic, there is no adjustment on the electric element, Just plug it in the wall and away it goes, the colum has a waterjacket around the outside, then just above that it goes to the condenser (External of the Colum) I'll pull the packing ou...

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
Just so I'm on the safe side of life:
If I remove the packing for the UJSSM Run, do I need to change the way I make my cuts?
Also, I've never been able to get this still under 90%... Maybe pulling out the packing would help this?

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
Hey guys. Just thought I'd pop on and say, i'm giving the old UJSSM a go for the first time, I ran the first batch and got some corn flavour over also as above, it was sweet. The next stage including backset is almost finished fermenting and nearly ready to run in the still. I'm using a still spirit...

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
Trying the UJSSM for the first time.
First batch came through the still with plenty of flavour, very sweet tasting, the second is about to kick in within the fermenter.
So looking forward to some nice likker once its done.
thanks for the info fellas.

I've heard of Eve
But never really looked into it, I'm more of a FPS gamer.

Crysis
BattleFields
Is eve exciting to play? or is it like a World of Warcraft?

I'm impatient, so I use the clearing agent from the Brew Store.
I also use 6 - 7 Kilo of white sugar, but make sure its well dissolved.

I don't have a need to be incognito.
As with trthskr4 sometimes that reason is why mods do it. Others just don't want to be bothered I guess.

Looks good, I've broken a couple of my normal thermomerters, but I was considering going Digital.
But I might just get one of those rotary dial guages for a backup.
