Re: What'd ya'll make today?

Today was beer (Much, much better at brewing beer than still'n). 11 Gallons of an Amber Lager are fermenting in a 50 degree fridge. Nailed the numbers. Should be tasty in a couple of months.

Re: The worst of the noob questions. Home brew though

Try Midwest Supplies, Northern Brewer, or Austin Home Brew. All have Extract kits and/or partial mash kits. Both are very doable for any beginner. I would stick to ales unless you have a temp controlled fridge for lagering. Darker beers are easier to cover mistakes. Hefe's are the easiest to make. F...

Re: Thinking about adding a chat feature

I agree that you may lose some good ideas if held in private. However, it would be nice to talk shop when you find yourself in a pinch. Work through the issue as it is happening, but then again, you are gonna have thirty chats about "my airlock isn't bubbling or can I use turbo". Tough call

Re: Will this beer taste good?

Looks tasty! The honey might be a little high for me but everyone is different. Looks like a clean dry beer. Your gonna lose some mouth feel and need to ferment a bit longer with the honey. Saaz would be a good low aa hop to try too if you find it too spicy with the cascade.

Re: M.F. Big fermenter.

I have all but stopped using airlocks. I just flip a 1/2 pint mason jar over the hole. My ferments are 10-15 gallons and usually the pressure is enough to keep out the nasties. I do ferment indoors though. Works for me but might not be the best for everyone else.

Re: Imperial'ish Stout

Oaked scraps really turn out great in heavy beers (My opinion). I throw in UJSM scraps for a week or two befor I rack to keg and you can get some good flavor pulled over. I was surprised how fas it comes through. Haven't ever tried with bourbon scraps but I would guess it would behave similar.

Re: Making a Keg pot

If expense is not an issue buy a pre done keg. Sabco has'em as well as many home brew sites.

Are we talking a boiler, brew POT, or MASH tun? It would be hard to not have a hole cut in the top for the last two.

Re: Mead plus Turbo's

Hmm.... Distilling mead. I've had it once but I didn't make it and didn't really care for it. I much preferred the traditional mead. But as Mr. Piss said, mead is gonna take you some time to get'er done. honey ferments slow. Worth it in the end in my opinion.
