Hot Plate cycling
Ok I bought the 1100 watt hot plate that Brewhaus sells and while I was making my first ever run yesterday the plate kept cycling on me and I'd lose my equlibrium in my column. I finally just switched to my propane burner out of frustration. Is there any way to keep this burner from cycling on and o...

Re: Best way to clear a sugar wash?
Cold crash it for a couple days, should clear it up. The yeast will floculate to the bottom.

Re: Concerned about where I ordered my still
Yes I talked to my credit card company, they will issue a charge back in 15 days if my still is not shipped to me. I also just sent an email saying don't ship the still I want to cancel. Not that it would do any good but at least I can say I sent a request to cancel the order

Thanks likkerluver, I just placed an order with Brewhaus. Geez, I can't believe I didn't do my homework on this, thats totally unlike me. I guess I should have known it was not reputable or professional by looking at all the poor grammar and misspellings on the stillbuilder website.

Seems I got ripped off by the stillbuilder also. Luckily I paid with my Discover card and I've filed a dispute, should be taken care of within 30 days. Now where to get a still from a reputable dealer.

Concerned about where I ordered my still
I ordered a still from Stillbuilder.com last Tuesday. Since I ordered I have sent an email question and I have also called and left a message. I get no answer or returned call. I'm starting to get a little concerned. Has anybody ever had any dealings with this company?

Re: This doesn't make sense to me
So what is meant by 'single malt'? Does that mean brewing with just one malt as opposed to using say 70% barley/30% rye?

Re: This doesn't make sense to me
Yes I've done a cereal mash, I did one recently with Polenta for a Classic American Pilsner that I am enjoying as I type this. I think I'll try a Whiskey with 56% Corn Malt, 22% Rye, 11% Wheat, and 11% Barley.

Re: This doesn't make sense to me
LOL, yes the video with the guy drinking the beer was the one I was talking about, absolutely hilarious. I am an AG brewer with beer so yes I'd be wanting to jump in headfirst and do AG for distilling mostly. I will probably do some sugar washes for neutral spirits I want to add flavor to though. Th...

Re: This doesn't make sense to me
You may be correct, the recipe was 4 lbs of table sugar and 2 1/2 lbs of cornmeal and yeast in warm water, nothing else. There was no mashing of any kind so it probably was just for corny flavor

This doesn't make sense to me
Ok I have never done any distilling yet but looking to get into it. I am an experienced beer homebrewer and I don't understand this. I have been looking on youtube recently and I see some guys making shine by pouring sugar and cornmeal into a carboy and just adding warm water and yeast. What I don't...
