Re: Condenser Coils on eBay
I bought one of the condenser coils from ebay and I'm pretty happy with it (it was from atlanta_service). The photo from the ebay page accurately represents the final product, and it was shipped promptly. I had originally wound one myself, but wasn't real happy with it. I'm sure I could have eventua...

Re: Triple still run
Coaster, I don't think it is correct that there is PTFE tubing that isn't rated for distilling temps.. do you know of any examples? PTFE is generally safe to 260C. That is not to say that it wouldn't be a better solution to use a flexible copper or stainless line, and it is always good to check the ...

Re: First Run !
First, run it with water and vinegar to clean it, and to check for leaks. Then for the sacrificial alcohol run, use whatever you have that is cheap. You could use a sugar wash or some cheap wine. You don't need to run 15 gallons or anything.. a gallon or two is fine. It is not recommended to drink t...

The good side is, since the show aired, I have seen more interest in shinin' than ever. More people mean a bigger force. So, in the long run, the show may actually help. You might be right.. "There is no such thing as bad publicity." Maybe the number of people who saw the show and were cu...

I also don't see how a group of internet forum members actively engaged in breaking the laws contributes to revising the laws. Generally, you don't get laws changed by actively breaking said laws. I'm not sure I agree with this point. Often it does take some lawbreaking to get laws to change. Think...

Yes you are correct. We both have been making typos. What I was trying to say is that both silicone and glass are both made out of silicon. I wasn't trying to say that glass was made out of silicone gel. Though if silicon isn't what you were thinking would leach from silicone gel, I'm not sure what ...

Good, don't assume anything I say without verifying it. The problem with silicone in breast implants wasn't because it wasn't inert. You do know that silicone is what glass is made out of, don't you? Here's some sites that talk about the if silicone is inert: http://www.rubbersheetroll.com/silicone_...

What flavors are you interested in? Do a forum search for whatever you want to make something like, and you'll probably get some hits on how to make it.

Re: Why is my Mash taking so long?
Keep waiting. as long as it is bubbling the yeast is still doing its magic. Sometimes it take a bit longer, but as long as you have it covered and have a fermentation lock, there isn't really any problem with letting it be. It may help to warm it up a bit.. (closer to 80F, but not much more than tha...

Here's what I noticed, (from one newbie to another) Water run it is recommended to run vinegar with that.. The acid will help sanitize anything in the column and clean it out.. Re: Difference between heat sources?
You want to make sure you don't have any leaks that could drip alcohol on the burner. Keep the distillate far enough away to prevent it from catching fire even if if your container spills or breaks or something. You can be safe with propane, as long as you are careful. When you are setting things up...

I appreciate this forums concern for safety, and I in fact share it. My questioning on PET was based on the fact that I do want to be safe, and my understanding is PET is as least as safe as HDPE. Each material has trade offs.. If you eschew all plastics, and use only glass for containers you risk g...

I'm using "beer belts" to keep the temp up on my 6 gallon buckets. They are about $20, and will raise the temp about 10 deg. F. And since I'm starting to get impatient I'm also puttying an old jacket loosely around it for a couple more degrees. With luck they will be done soon and I'll be ...

Tater,
Are you saying that PET should be avoided for fermentation containers? How about "Better-Bottles"?
My understanding for fermentation the large PET bottles were safe....
Also, do you have a source for the levels of antomony and phthalates in PET?

DWV is still plenty thick for a still. Since there's no pressure built up in the still it doesn't need to be especially thick. Are you sure it isn't available in 10' sections? The Menards by my house has 10' 3"
I'm making mine out of 2" DWV.
