Re: Multimeter thermometer
hi, I have a range of different temp sensing probes, which i use for work. if your meter is calibrated correctly they may be of a limited use, eg, taped to the external surface of the pot to monitor boiling temp. but in my experience immersion type probes are not designed to be immersed in ethanol v...

Re: Mauri Distillers Yeast
hi,
I was interested in trying this alcovin, sent redox a email, they came back with:
Essencia Australia repack Alcovin into small sachets under the brand name 'Super 6'.
sounds like its distributed as a turbo yeast or equivalent.
cheers

Hi,
I made my first UJSM batch with my detuned reflux, and it stripped 80% of the flavour out.
i ended up making a pot still, theres no comparison between the two. much much more flavour

Hi all, Its being about two years now since iv'e had any commercian product, i can't remember what it tasts like. my friends allways compare what i give them to commercian stuff, but i think its impossible to compare the two. the only reason you compare to commercial product is because its the only ...

Re: in line slanted plate on pot still
hi , from what i understand, output is hot. yes that makes sense, on the last plate which leads to collection outlet one side of the plate has condensed distillate runnning down it whilst on the other side hot vapour rises and moves past to be condensed, some heat transfer from the hot vapour to the...

Re: in line slanted plate on pot still
hi Makes it hard to run a parrott to measure output, from what i understand, output is hot. Have a look at Pints, mine and i think rumbulls condensors, very compact and very efficient if you want a pot still. thanks for that, i understand about the collection tube being at the centre of the keg maki...

hi all,
Can anyone out out reccomend a electric element supplier in AU.
would ideally like one that fits without any access to inside of the keg. at present i use a replacement still spirits element
that feeds through from inside with a backnut on it.
looking for approx 1500 W.
cheers

hi, yes lpg is heavier than air, and this fact makes it one of the most dangerous gases to burn around the home. allways make sure theres enough ventilation for correct combustion to take place. Re: anybody here know anything about heat pumps or A/C?
hi, i'm in commercial / industrial air con/ heating. you wouldn't be able to use anykind of air con unit for this purpose, as the temps at the condensor are not in the range that you want. the liquid that flows from the condensor needs to be sub cooled for the unit to cool, (below its saturation tem...

hi,
i wouldn't worry to much, i think it'll be fine.
i've used winos recipe with less yeast, more yeast and with a yeast bomb. All fermented down to 0.990 sg. using bakers yeast.
this recipe is my choice for neutral spirit now.
cheers

hi all, think that the safest think i can do is; 1 - don't leave unattended. 2 - still build electrical controls to monitor and isolate heating in the event of a failure. hi all, i still think it could be safely done. but i'd still be in there all the time checking the output, tasting etc fussing around and thinking. i'm sure that a modern distillery would have many parts of the process automated, but for a small hobby set up it may just take all the fun out of it. :D

Re: The continuous Stripper (pimp my still)
Hi all, The main problem i see with any design like the above, is that the heat input would have to be matched to the folw rate of the wash entering to be heated. you don't want wash to exit with alcohol in it. you may get it balanced correctly for one wash, but how much would you lose setting the r...

Unattended still. Hi all, at present my condenser water setup is a 25 ltr tank with a pond pump in it, which pumps through my condenser in use (pot or reflux still). out of the still and then through a heat exchanger from an old water cooler that has a fan fitted to the back, then back to the tank. ...
