I am in WA, I went to the local independent- has everything you could ever dream of. I got 1 1/2" copper pipe for around 5-7$ a foot, they had at least 2" pipe I'm sure. They did it by the foot too instead of having to buy the whole pipe. Should be able to find something, check industrial ...

Fog Machine

I've been getting 'fog' out the end of my still lately, along with good drips of moonshine. Ive got a pot still with a packed column and a condensor, what is causing this? Is it Alcohol vapor that has not condensed? Just want to make sure I'm not loosing good product. Let me know if you need more sp...

I can't quite say whether it is long enough or not, but I built my still after the one from that page. My condensor might even be a little bit shorter but holds more water, I am pretty anal about having icy water running through, but i havent had any problems. That wide copper pipe is pretty pricy, ...

I have a small still and use a very small fountain pump to cycle water through a condenser jacket. I have 3/8" tubing to the condensor and it moves the water through the condensor pretty quick, even at about 75% (it is adjustable). Unless your coil is about 200ft long the pump is probably more ...

Ask an ye shall recieve, I am very new at this hobby but I am good at coming up with innovative ways to make things on a tight budget and the space/resource constraints of a two bedroom apartment. A little background on what you will see: the copper fitting screws into the hole I cut in my adapter p...

I have a copper column and I just used a copper fitting- female to male threaded, it makes a nice seal and was easy- no welding or anything fancy other than elbow grease needed.

Will I get any adverse effects from putting the wash in the fridge to help seperation before distilling? It worked pretty well the last time I did it, I assume the only thing is it would stop the yeast but If its done anways it shouldnt matter right? Just covering the bases in case I overlooked some...

mainly just the posts on this board. I know its like a rough first run but I don't know whether that means you just dont make cuts and then do it on your second run, or it is run at a higher temperature.

stripping run temp?

I'm a little confused about the methods for a stripping run. Do you heat things to a higher temperature so you get a nasty spirit and have less things like sugar water in the way for the second run? What temp works best for a stripping run? Is this the same principle as making a brandy so you vapori...

Re: conversion

I thought bout trying corn syrup myself sometime, does anyone here know what the conversion between it and sugar would be? I've got my wash that has been going for almost a week now that was made out of one bottle of generic grocery brand corn syrup, brown sugar, and baking yeast. I just looked at ...

throw them tails in?

I've got a nice sugar wash thats getting close to finished. I've got about 5-6oz of nasty tails from my first run- will it benefit or harm me if I throw those into my new wash when it comes time to distill?

beginner questions

Ok, I have a few questions that hopefully some of you can help out with to get me on my way. I made a reflux still (sort of) out of copper, I just havent piped the cooling water tubes through the main column from the condenser, they just run to the condenser at the moment. I used just molasses and w...
