Re: Stovetop pot still
That sounds awesome. So at some point, will I be able to make cuts without separating them into 10 jars and THEN making the cuts? I guess that's the end goal, right? Also, my dad had these since he was my age (26) and gave them to me for christmas. Thought you'd appreciate them.

Re: Stovetop pot still
Piss,
Thanks for your posts on here. I've read a lot of your stuff. So that THANK YOU was directed at guys like you, rad, Shiner, Somaho ( or whatever it is...)
I put 3.8 liters in 10 jars. I have them numbered and sitting with paper towels over them. Will that work?

Re: Stovetop pot still
I did a spirit run today and it came out AWESOME. it still has a slight off-scent but i'll learn from this and move on. I just want to give a HUGE thank you to everyone on this site. I have been toying with the idea for years but never really knew where to start. A buddy (in another state) bought a ...

Re: sweetfeed whisky
Ghost I did a spirit run. Had to dilute with nearly 1 gal of distilled water to get it below 40, so I must've done something right! The spirit run is awesome. Crystal clear distillate, nice flavor, slight hint of the "sour" smell, but nothing nearly as bad. Made up 24 fresh gallons of this...

Re: sweetfeed whisky
Thanks Ghost. I figured I will run it and try another batch tomorrow. I think I'm going to pitch double the yeast. I'll let you know how it works.

Re: Stovetop pot still
I tried to let it cool for about 24 hrs, but only got it down to 60. then I used a nylon paint bag to strain off the grain. Then I threw THAT into the boiler. I had a really tough time with the soldering and I'm concerned that its just carbon left from the torch. I ran the vinegar for a couple hours...

Re: sweetfeed whisky
So i am halfway through my second stripping run of this stuff and I think I messed up. I made two 5 gallon batches or 4 inches of feed, 5 pounds sugar and yeast. After the first day one smelled sour. terribly sour. re-pitched yeast and it bubbled right up and the sour smell wasnt as bad. The problem...

Stovetop pot still
So I am doing a first run as we speak. The drive-by truckers are accompanying me. Anyway, I did a vinegar/water cleaning run and it went fine. Then i did another (just to double check seals) then I ran a gal of carlos rossi. I am now running KS's sweetfeed. I am seperating all the distillate into 10...

Re: It's so hard to wait...
RB I love it... The last thing on my still is the glue that seals between the bucket and the worm. it takes 48 to 72 hours to cure. after that I need to do my cleaning run and then my sacrificial run of some Carlo Rossi. I figure by the time I finish all that the wash will be ready... But, seriously...

It's so hard to wait...
I just made my first mash. I tried KS's sweetfeed whisky. It took me a month or more to build the still, get all the stuff together and tonight I finally did it. Now I'm bored again... I have it fermenting in 2 five gal buckets from the local brew shop with lids and air locks. My questions is, how m...

and how did you attach the cocktail shaker to the dog bowl? I think I'm going to bypass the dog bowl and go straight to the shaker.

Re: 1st pot still up & running
Sonnofabitch. I think I have the perfect plan for my first still and then this guy shows up, guns blazin and makes me think I should give up all together... So I'm about to pull the trigger on a 20 qt stock pot at the local kitchen supply store for $75. Now I'm pulling the E-brake on that program......

Re: Misplaced...
I think I figured it out and have decided on a good plan. If I could do it over again, here's what I'd have done differently: Buy some small pieces of copper and practice. Take my time and make sure they look clean before I start on the real thing. I only soldered a handful of pieces together and by...

I live in this mormon outcamp called Utah. It's a total pain to find good beer, let alone anyone that knows anything about distilling. I have read and reread a lot of the stuff on this forum for the past 2 weeks. I went and picked up 20' of 1/2" copper tubing to make a coil today. I am still tr...
