Re: And they Say stillin is easy

Stillin is easy. Just watch that damm ass TV show. It's making the recipe, fermenting and the blending that can be a bitch. Spend hours mashing the grain. Days letting the yeast do the magic. Spending all day watching the still. Aging for months/years. But I love her every time. My Pa used to slap t...

Re: Show us your dunder pit

I do not have a picture of mine yet. Will get one soon to put up here. This weekend I pulled from my dunder pit. It has been sitting almost 6 months. The smell was just about the best thing ever. Complex and fruity with a great molasses smell. So much better than last year. This is the third year. a...

Per gallon of water: 2 lb cracked corn 1/4 lb malted red wheat 1/4 lb malted rye A dash more malted rye I will heat up the corn slowly. When the temp gets to 115°F I will toss in a handful of malted rye to help keep viscosity down. It really makes a difference. I really like this grain bill cause i...

I have sample of the mead yeast now to add to the trial. P1010002_edited.JPG Used my same basic recipe but this yeast was the whole batch. Another reason to place the boiler on it's side is to increase vapor surface area. This would allow for a faster run. Same principle as in cooking and chosen either a tall slim pot or a short wide pot, determined by how much you want the liquid reduced by.

S-C, Yes that's the numbers I get. The numbers always seemed a little high to me also, but they are pretty consistent. I always dilute my low wines to around 35% with water. It is possible that my Alcoholmeter is off. Have not done the annual calibration (HAHA) Have not compared to a second one. May...

Hey All, I have been doing the Sweet Feed recipe for almost two years. I like this recipe because is is simple with a good taste. I also do AG also, but with the extra work involved, when things get real busy I always come back to SF. SF tends to be my winter brew because I can ferment indoors. Summ...

I killed 2 birds with one stone. The wife wanted a fish pond. I built her a 2500 pond, next to the still house (sounds impressive haha) use a small pump from the pond to my toys. Fish like the warm water return. Temp is very stable across the entire run. Pond only goes up about 1 degree. She gets wh...

I am interested in this yeast also. Would like to read more about your observations. How long did an actual ferment take? How far down did it ferment to? How was to taste of the Rum after? What difference do you believe this yeast add to the overall flavors. My Dunder pit is only about 6 months old ...
