Re: Steel Drums / Tea Tree Oil
I have read that bleach can be corrosive to stainless. I see what you are saying about the oil floating. I'm going to try some dawn and filling it up with water.
Thanks a ton can't believe I didn't think that through.

Re: Steel Drums / Tea Tree Oil
I filled it up with roughly 4 gallons of vinegar and one gallon of water and rotated it around to make sure everything was covered. Then added a 1lb box of baking soda and did the process again. I rotated the barrel every 10-12 hrs. Each area was covered by liquid atleast that long. Is there another...

Re: Steel Drums / Tea Tree Oil
I recently scored a tea tree oil barrel which is stainless steel. I am wanting to use this as a mash pot to cook all grain mash in. I am having the absolute hardest time getting the tea tree oil smell out of the barrel. I have used vinegar with baking soda. I have put a couple gallons of water in it...

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
I always leave some mash in the fermenter covering the corn and then I reseal. Anyway....woke up this morning and she is bubbling away. My starting st was 1.090 so I check it this evening and see how well it's working. I have done this the same exact way every time and never had any issues and produ...

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
I have added dap, really unsure what nutrients I would need as I have never done it. I have also never measured the ph level of any of my wash/mash. I guess I will get some test strips. I am going to search some on ways to adjust ph levels right now.

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
I started this method early summer so there is yeast in there from then and the other batches after. My yeast that I pitched was bought in the summer as well. It's redstar wine yeast. I have been trying a few different ones. I was worried that it had possible gotten to acidic or something.

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
Well I didn't the first time and it was a super slow worker. And I always rack and clear my beer a few times before distilling and I get alot of yeast out of it so I started pitching yeast each time after that.

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
Currently fermenting my 4th mash of this method and I cannot get it to start. Did the distillation of my 3rd batch, waited for backseat to cool to about 120 and poured back into the fermenter. Added my sugar and stirred it until it was dissolved. Waited about 4 hours and my temp had reached 97f. Pit...

Re: All Bran Recipe

Slowed to 1 bubble every 30 sec after 8 days so i decided i was going to test it and be done....starting sg 1.082, ending sg 1.028 :-( ill strip it off no big deal. I guess pitching the yeast while it was still too hot wa...

I am going to use threaded connections at the top of my thumper. 3 stainless 1/2npt females. 2 of them inline and the other for the discharge to the condenser.

Re: How long should a run take?
i was going to do some welding on the stand so it will be stable. What kind of output are you having? A steady stream? Fast drip? almost stream? I am filling my 200ml jars in a matter of a few minutes. The first thing i am going to try is running a fan on low speed. This is the easiest way to get a ...

How long should a run take?
I have been unsuccessful lately, I have been ending up with a product that tastes like heads all the way until the tails. Really no hearts section. My very first run was by far my most successful. It was a 10gallon wash and I ran my still on about 50% power. I have since ran several 3-4 gallon washe...

Re: All Bran Recipe
Finally got a glass carboy and worked up another batch of the all bran(pg 5). Accidently pitched the yeast too early but it didnt seem to effect anything(105f). In 30 minutes it was churning, so i put an airlock on it and havent touched it since. It was bubbling 3 times per second at first(saturday ...

recently set up an extra refridgerator i had to hold my buckets, this really helps the clearing process. Probably going to start racking to another container and clearing again just to be sure.

Re: My first turbo wash/run
.....The wash was a milky color..... @ 100percent, If your wash is “milky color” it isn’t sufficiently “Cleared” enough to be attempting to distill. The wash “milky color” indicates that there are nutrients suspended in the wash. Regards, Coaster Thanks for this piece of info, i have done tons of r...

Re: PVC for Liebig?
built a 42'' copper unit a week or so ago, its about 48'' of 1/2'' with a 42''x3/4'' jacket. No more vapors and as far as the water warming up, it really only does it when i turn the heat up, if i run it slow it isnt as bad, also i have been freezing jugs of water and i will add them to the resevoir...

coaster, As i stated i had already bought it and didnt want it to waste, especially if the splitting method works as previously discussed. RAD- I will try the other half of the turbo but with the full amount of water. As far as straining through a t shirt, the wash was left in the cold for 3 days an...

My first turbo wash/run
Packet from mile hi, split in 1/2 and i basically went by the packet instructions all split in half. Only change i made was added 2.5 cups of gerber to a 3ish gallon wash. stating sg was 1.130....yikes ending sg was 1.006, some pretty stout stuff. Was at 10% in 24 hours and i shut it down at 1.006 a...

Re: All Bran Recipe
ran my first all bran wash today and i was not happy with the results. I followed the recipe on page 1 for this wash and did 4 gallons. ended up with basically heads and tails and nothing that seemed like hearts. I ran it moderately slow for what i have done so far. ( my slowest yet) I caught 200ml ...

Re: All Bran Recipe
I did go slightly bigger than a pin hole and I made sure there was no pressure building up. The hole I made is about 1/16th I'd say. I can put my finger over it for a few seconds and then slide it off the hole and hear the pressure release. I'm keeping it at 75f hopefully that will keep things going...

Re: All Bran Recipe
I stirred it vigorously every 10 minutes then at the 1hr mark I dump the wash from one bucket to another then back and I now have it capped. Has a small pin hole that has constant air/co2 coming out. I'll try and check the sg once the activity dies down.

Re: PVC for Liebig?
Sounds good. I'm also planning on putting a scrubber or part of a scrubber towards the end of my Liebig. I am also planning on making it turn down because right now it is running just slightly down hill. I feel like if it turned down the vapor would have a harder time getting out before condensing.
