Re: Somethings falling out of my Rum

I had the same exact stuff turn up in a run of WPOSW a few days after it was run. The product was still 180 proof also. Strained it through a coffee filter and got it cleared up, but I rerun it just to be on the safe side.

Re: Thoughts on my reflux column design.

Is this your reflux column? If so I would just build a VM head that could be attached to the column in place of the reflux head. You could remove the second condenser above the take off from the vapor line, and reduce down from there for a VM. Just looking at the photo I think the first option would...

Re: Reflux Still Struggles

Your going to need some serious heat to desolder that 3" cap. MAPP gas will do the job. Propane will work but it is not easy. I'd just drilled a hole in the cap. That is how mine is set up. Works fine. Good luck!

I am still in the learning process myself on running a still, but here is how I do it. My 9 to 5 job involves a lot of distilltion, but on a much larger scale and totally different material than used in distilltion of alcohol, but to me the same princples apply. First as you know the boiling point o...

Interesting design. If you want to see the reflux returning back down the column might try something like this. Just a thought. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=260049702251" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="no...

I done the mixing bowl on my first keg with a reflux column. Wish I'd never done it now, but I didn't really know any better at the time. It was built because I was looking for a design that would hopefully aid in returning the reflux directly to the center of the column and offer plenty of cooling at the same time. Plus it is cleaner and neater looking that a regular coil.
