Re: First run of VM mod to Boka seems slow
Wow, thanks for all the suggestions. I especially appreciate specific experiments that I can try. I will report results later when I get a chance to try them. I studied Samohons pix and drawings, and I now understand where I went wrong. The VM output needs to be below the Boka output plates, not abo...

First run of VM mod to Boka seems slow
VM_Rig.jpg Alchemist.jpg I purchased a 2" X 32" boka style reflux still with copper scrubber packing, insulated. It has a 8" double worm condenser at the top and a 10" Leibig on the Lyne arm. Boiler is a 6 gal beer keg with electric heat, controlled with a heavy duty router spee...

Re: Heating Element Control
I bought a 20 amp router speed control on Amazon for $32 plus shipping. It works just fine on my 120 volt 1500 watt water heater element. Dump in the contents of one of those little plastic cups of diced pears in light sirup. Age in the fridge for a week or two. Enjoy after dinner in a shot glass or such. A...

The "Alchemist" still is a two inch all-copper fractionating still from Rainier distillers. It is a fine and nice-looking product, pix at http://www.rainierdistillers.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow . After reading the horror stories o...

First ever ... success!
Yesterday I ran my first successful Gerber wash through my brand new "Alchemist" still, and I am thrilled. :D My first ferment followed a professional high-sugar recipe and it stalled with 25 Brix down from 32. The second was the Gerber "tried and true" recipe fermented in a carb...
