Re: Ujsm: why not ferment longer

Thanks guys! This is good to know! I swear I had read stuff about not being able to keep a wash longer than a week and the only reason you can with beer is because of the hops. Anyway this makes much more sense! Im going to work on my ph levels and everything By warm I mean 24c Mr piss I would love ...

Re: Ujsm: why not ferment longer

2 days! Mine would probably take 10 days! Here I thought it was fermenting fast! Do you add yeast nutrient flakes, and citric acid, and keep it warmer than room temp? Maybe I should seriously upgrade to a distillers yeast... I wanted to stay true to the recipe but I better do something differ...

Re: Ujsm: why not ferment longer

Its warm in my place and its bubbling away nicely. Uj says to run it after 3 to 4 days.
25l fermenter.
I'm getting good results just wondering if I should let it dry right up like I do with my sugar wash, so not to waste any sugar.
Using fresh bakers yeast no problem with fermenting.

Re: hooking up my 4500w 240v element to 2 plugs

Drier plug in the laundry? All the old greek ladies in the laundry room might look at me funny haha I doubt it, they'd be more likely to tell you your doing it wrong. I think the fatman has the right idea, why not run 2 elements on 1500? If I has access to a big dryer plug that would work wouldn't ...

Ujsm: why not ferment longer

After 3 to 4 days there is still a lot of sugar left in my wash (not that I bother using my hydrometer... Just taste) Seemes like a waste when I throw out the sweet backset that I don't add to the fermenter. Can I let it sit for 6 days instead(maybe even till it gets dry)? Or is there a flavor thing...

Re: hooking up my 4500w 240v element to 2 plugs

Yeah its a no go... I'm going to run the water lines neater, and move the still just outside the kitchen wall, AND plug in a hot plate by the stove... Not ideal but a solution for now.
Thanks guys! Good advice as always!

hooking up my 4500w 240v element to 2 plugs

I really need to get an apartment with a garage  So I am going to hook it up to 2 plugs on different breakers. I just use the 2 hot wires and the neutral is n...

Re: Adding a Thumper and worm to my pot still {pics}

Haha yeah no one noticed it on mine either. I only noticed it because I knew it was there on mine. The product I made was fine, but yeah I would cover it with the teflon. Not much is really exposed on the inside but just for peace of mind I would do it. I only ran mine twice and then I sold it, and ...

oaking ujsm with peat

I don't have space to malt my own grain yet, so I got thinking maybe I could toast my oak sticks over a fire and toss a bit of peat in too!
think that is a good idea?
I also want to add more grains to my ujsm and try to make a nice scotch.
any ideas or thoughts would be great
thanks!

I was too lazy to even do the second distillation and I have just started drinking the maceration that was done at 65% and watered down to 40%now. everyone loves it! I can see room for improvment, but for now it is doing the trick! eventually I will vapor infuse but for now I want to make a f...

Ya they're not bad at all are they? It's the cheapest and easiest way to pull 95%+ I've found. Two questions, are you breaking them up into smaller rocks or are you just using them as they come in the bag? What's your approximate run speed and abv? I am just using them as they came with a centring ...

Re: Pigroasters new optimal profile for oak aging sticks

I was thinking maybe putting a clamp in the centre of your oak strip and the take an ax and split a bunch on both ends, giving it a bowtie shape. no wood wasted can compress & re-expand to fit in your bottle, and the peices should not clump together

Re: Love to distill, but drinking gives me heartburn

I have acid reflux. i'm drinking a beer and it's burning right now. But when i eat really healthy (lots of vegetables, less fat, not a tone of meat) I don't get the burn at all.
avoiding tomato and coke helps a lot too.
