This should help:

It seems as though you may want to do a stripping run followed by a spirit run.

Are you cutting down the alcohol content or drinking the straight distillate?

Thanks, I'll be interested on your progress.

I am a bit curious as to why you would not preheat with the distillate, the heat is already there and its free!

I am a machinist by trade and stoning a drill bit will solve the problem.
Copper and brass require negative attack angles.
This is VERY well known in the trade!

The drill is too sharp.
You can stone the front of the flute and it should not grab.

Re: Continuous Stripping still?

Total time may be the same, but you would have almost not heat up time. Also, using the waste heat from the pre-condenser would be reducing heating time further, and reuse the heat for free. I have little problem finding an hour here and there, but 5 continuous hours are rare and I would prefer to u...

Continuous Stripping still?

Time is precious and there never seems to be a lot to work with my hobbies. While I know that I'll be able to find time for a spirit run occasionally, I would like to strip in short sessions. My question specifically has anyone tried something akin to a tube flash boiler? My thought would be a pipe ...

Re: Making Quality Rum: The Final Word on Molasses/Sugar Sou

Hmmm...since Rum was originally, and still made from leftover sugarcane residue IE: blackstrap molasses I fail to see why you do not want it!
Unless you are after a light white rum.

I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Re: WHAT SINGLES OUT DISTILLED SPIRITS?

In the US we have a "pesky" Constitution! Lawmakers need to find ways to tax people just enough so they don't complain AND that people think someone else is paying it. Not everyone make spirits so if you tax the makers then the drinkers don't see the tax...at least not directly. By law a d...

I am pretty sure that most commercial bottled and canned beers are Pasteurized in the US.
A lot are probably only filtered.

LWTCS, thanks :)

I can get it for about 1.50 per pound from Shop-Rite without any searching!
It seems that some feed molasses, some panela, and some cane sugar to conserve costs should make for a good wash...thanks.

Re: Blackstrap Molasses and RUM

According to the Rum University Lesson IV : How much sugar do I need to make rum? In the early days, long before industrialized sugar mills, the sugar plantation owner’s table of equivalence looked something like this: 1 Acre of Land equals 10 Tons of sugarcane, equals 1 Ton of sugar, equals 30 Gall...

Thanks for that :) On the use of brown sugar, isn't it just cane sugar with some molasses added / left in it? Blackstrap Molasses and RUM

OK, back to my preferred product, RUM. It has been suggested that the best still for rum is a pot still, so that is where I am heavily leaning. Most of the recipes call for blackstrap / feed molasses and I bet they are one and the same. Some have suggested Fancy but that seems to be the minority. No...

How do commercial distillers get away with continuous stills?
Isn't everything smeared...including foreshots?

Are the better vodkas batch distilled or is most vodka continuous?

I am mainly looking for rum so will be pot stillin but really curious on this subject.

My folks moved to XXX County in Virginia in 1980.

That county used more sugar than any other county in the US, and not a week went by that a still was not busted in those Blue Ridge Mountain hollers.
No doubt they are cookin right now :)
