Re: The king is gone
Me and the better half went to see George last March in Topeka, KS. Shortly thereafter he was admitted into the hospital off an on till his passing on Friday. I grew up with George being a standard and appreciated music staple in my life. I am glad I got to see him live in what was a high quality go...

Efficiency question.
A while back I posted my intentions on buying a flute due to my lack of success in building one. Tools and experience being my biggest setbacks. Well I have talked myself out of buying a flute, but I did order a 26 gallon boiler and a 5500w heating system. I am currently on a gas heat system, 15.5 g...

Re: Throwin in the towel.
I get good abv and flavor from my offset, and it's easy to run. Just seems like the next logical step. I would like my neutrals to be a bit more neutral than I am getting now, even with multiple runs. And as for whiskeys, I might stick with the offset. I have gotten some awesome results. But I am la...

I have attempted a few builds. I have actually succeeded at a couple and currently using my 2" offset nixon style with no real issues. But I have not been able to get over the hump to the next level, flute design. So I am going to bite the bullet and buy one. Haven't decided if I will go with H...

Re: Store bought "moonshine"
I just bought a jar of Nascar legend Jr. Johnson's Midnight Moonshine, blueberry shine. 100 proof neutral and the jar is filled about 3/4 with blueberries. Not too bad really. Good over ice. They also had a blackberry that would be worth a go I think. I bought it just to see what it would taste like...

Re: Gotta attempt it at some point..
Just an update. I did run this recipe a second time. I did not screw it up a second time. This time I made sure to completely cook corn and rye, let it cool down to below 150 before I added the 4 pounds of 6 row (upped it a half pound, thanks Prairie). Aerated the hell out of it, pitched in my yeast...

Re: Sometimes failure is success.
What went wrong in the AG was I didn't cook my flaked corn enough and I am pretty sure I put the 6 row in when it was still way too hot. And as for the lactic ferment, I understand the basics. But not being of scientific mind, I have to screw things up a few times before I get it

Re: Sometimes failure is success.
One thing outside of the notes, exact measurements. This ain't making cookies, a dash more of this and taste. Also I need to be way more patient, I'm the kind of guy that thinks a microwave is slow. I'm getting there, letting my washes truly clear out. And since this heavenly tasting failure. I will...

Sometimes failure is success.
Not too long ago I attempted my first AG. I have this very annoying personality complex that leads me to believe that I can do things differently than the thousands+ before me have and get the same or better results. Yes, I am an idiot. So it didn't work out, didn't want to waste the grain, threw it...

Rad, I am a drywaller by trade, before that I was a painter. One day 20+ years ago I was cutting in along an 8' ceiling from the floor (I am pretty tall) when a drywaller walked in and yelled at me to put that paint brush down and come to work as a drywaller. He knew my height would be a huge advant...

I have some small utility scaffold, we call them roll and folds. I put 2 electric oil heaters, the ones that look like old radiator heaters, under it split the metal planks about an inch apart and put my buckets on that. The heat flows through and keeps the metal planks warm and toasty. Coldest nigh...

Re: Gotta attempt it at some point..
I checked the SG again a couple hours later, 1.02 with no action what-so-ever. So obviously I got this extremely easy recipe and process wrong some how. I'm shocked :sarcasm: . Checked again this morn, no changes. So, I figure I did something wrong when I added the 6 row. Either too early or late. D...

Thanks for your service Paramedic. I too have done the basic "prepping" I think it's a good idea to have 1 years worth of food and the like should things get nuts. I would rather be prepared for the worst and be wrong, than be prepared for nothing and it all falls apart. I am in the constr...

Last Friday I got laid off. Most of the guys I work have been off for the last month or so. There is work on the books coming up in the spring. Many builders and customers in the area are pushing back the starting dates on new construction into next year based on fears. I'm not all ideological about...

New Mexico has the lowest cost of living, they have state income tax very low though. Land is cheap as hell, I have property there for when I retire outside of Deming. Being a libertarian myself I get where you are coming from. But I'm not real sure on the political vibe out there. I kinda figured i...

Re: Gotta attempt it at some point..
with DP being the factor here, thanks Prarie and Dura.
Using malted grains as opposed to flaked probably makes much more sense. And when I look at the DP of malted wheat and rye it becomes clearer.
Thanks, will now rethink everything.
