Re: New keg pot still, built to order

If you have some pics I would like to see the heating element setup broken down. I like how that looks and would like to do something similar. It looks like very ease of use for changing the element out should it break. Thanks. Here are a few more shots of the heating assembly in pieces. This is th...

New keg pot still, built to order

Hi Guys... I'm very, very new to this game and am coming off a T500 (don't ask!! :( ). I wanted something that I could begin running some UJSM through and letting it sit on some wood for a while, and then progress from there. I also know there are a million ways to put a rig together so I went to so...

Re: The Turbo 500 and UJSM

hi Bevan... so let me get this straight... you've setup the 500 as per normal and it boils your wash but the water outlet temp doesn't move and just returns the same cold water out?

Re: The Turbo 500 and UJSM

No worries, it's funny who you run into isn't it!! The plated still is amazing, very efficient and great output. One day I'll commission one when i have the room.

Re: The Turbo 500 and UJSM

As appears in many famous last words... "I'll try anything once!". My results were less than favourable and it seems at this point my quest to make any decent flavoured spirit will not be as a result of my Turbo 500. I think I may touch base with thecroweater and take him up on an offer to...

Re: The Turbo 500 and UJSM

OK, so I've done my first run with it. Interesting and confusing results to an amateur like me! So what I did was decided not to try and replicate your conditions Bevan, as then we would end up with most likely the same results and that's not going to help us in anyway. So the first major difference...

The Turbo 500 and UJSM

Hi All... first off - this forum is awesome, only found it last week and it's excellent! Well done guys. I'm a VERY rookie masher and waiting for my first UJSM to finish bubbling away. I have a Turbo 500 reflux still, and before everyone starts telling me that I should be using a pot still for whisk...

Re: Making Bourbon - help appreciated

Damoz, that shop owner gave you piss poor advice because he was only interested in making a buck... Making neutral spirits and adding essences is not the way to make flavored spirits... And that Turbo 500 cannot be run as a pot still... You need a simple pot still and a decent recipe using standard...

Re: Making Bourbon - help appreciated

Very interesting thread Bevan! I am in exactly the same situation as you... Beam drinker from way back and decided to get my own still to give it a crack myself. Ended up with the Turbo 500 on a shop owners advice and now it seems like it's not the way to go for bourbon. I was told "it'll be go...
