Extruded aluminum is a good, modular means of a support rack for the steam generator. I have heard referred to as T-rail also. This railing is what I have included for the frame work on my dream steam generator.

Re: Marble magic and a theory yet to be proven

Great thread and topic! Would there be any advantage or disadvantage to random sizes and shapes of the marbles, i.e. more surface area due to settling? Also, would there be any additional benefit of the glass being etched? Not trying to derail from your experiment Mad Mariner, just suggesting some o...

Re: Bringing my still inside

Try this for installing 2” Tri clamp then silver solder to seal it up. All my stills are built this way for tri clamps, drains and hose / pump connections. Tri clamp install I prefer this over TIG welding them in. It’s easier, cheaper and you can easily disassemble it if you want to. I've been cons...

Re: Developing A recipe and need some help.

When distilling, you are concentrating everything from the must/wash/mash. That said, what flavors that may not be detectable when in undistilled form will be upfront and center after distillation, hence why we stay below the threshold of the yeast we use, not stressing it. Bread yeast can be pushed...

The blue label is S04 strain of yeast. Typically an ale yeast, lending slightly fruity and floral notes. I have yet to use any but have a few satchet in my stash.

On a related side note, when you drive by a petrol tank farm look at their tanks covered in black mold from the ethanol added to gasoline nowadays.

After a quick Google-Fu, the only countries adding ethanol to gasoline is the US and Brazil. That may not be accurate either

I've read of people mixing a batch of LME or DME and splitting it amongst several sterilized jars and placing them under apple trees for wild yeast harvests. PTFE gland packing or valve stem packing may be what you're asking about. The majority of what I see when I Google it is braided. There is some that looks like twisted PTFE tape, which if you're mating 2 flat surfaces would be ideal IMO Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Danco-80794-Faucet-P...

Copper or stainless steel bowls are an easy way of making the two halves of your ball. Most have a lip around them that will lend to being a flange to clamp, allowing for future adjustments. Also will be easy mounting your plates. If all of your downcomers are going to be center mounted, it would be...

With such a high finishing gravity I'd say you're probably scorching some of the unfermentable sugars. As mentioned, some added enzymes should get you into a lower finishing gravity thus leaving less to be scorched.

As suggested earlier, chill filtering will help you get a better appearance of your product at the cost of some flavor. As close as those plates would be that would cause quite a bit of entrainment at the speeds which plated columns are known for. I'm not sure if it could be ran slow enough. A common plate spacing for 4" columns is 6". I believe it was said a while back a minimum of the column diameter for ...
