Re: NEMA 10-30 outlet...deathwish?

Thanks OBX. And by grounding the keg you mean running that neutral wire all the way to the keg and fastening it with a screw drilled into the keg right? I was also going to ground the SSR by splicing off of that same neutral/ ground inside of the controller box. That's OK right? My fear was that bec...

NEMA 10-30 outlet...deathwish?

Hey, to all of you knowledgeable folk out there. Long time no post but I've been here peeping around. Anyway, I just purchased the Still dragon diy controller. Its the ssr40 with pot in a 10x8" plastic box. I haven't assembled or wired it yet because I saw something that freaked me out. I was p...

Re: ....All grain.

Thanks cu29. I inherited 50#s of organic cracked corn that I am half way thru. You said I will scorch even with a false bottom? that's weak...oh well I guess I will be using my home depot 10 gallon insulated cooler to mash in until its gone. Thanks for the input. Sorry for the double post. I didn't boil the corn this time as the false bottom for my boiler has yet to be ordered...bummer. Besides, I was unsure if the conversion on the corn was substantial enough to warrant the work and effort and possibility of creating concrete in my new stainless mash pot th...

Hey guys long time no post. Been a peeping Tom on HD.org as usual. Got kind of spooked BT the Brewhaus post. Anyway just finishing up an all grain mash tonight: 6 pounds cracked corn 4 pounds milled rye 4 pounds malted barley. 6-7 gallons of 5.2 pH balanced agua. I brought my water up to 195 then du...

FWIW, Those counties in Oregon(Jospehine and Curry) have repeatedly voted down various tax measures to make up for the loss in Timber payments(when the Timber industry dried up, bc of deforestation, the Federal gov't held the county's hand). Im with texasshine and corene on this one. That was kind of a loaded question I asked earlier about what your experience level is. Mine obviously is still in the novice range but I am being patient and learning the art and craft of distilling on a pot still. I too became enamored by the fancy builds...

Thanks for sharing Bowhunt. I got some good hearts im saving from this run. I probably am goin to do 2 more stripping runs like I did yesterday. Then im going to have both my fermenters going with Ujsm, 12 gallons total. My goal is to completely strip and then spirit run. Then compare and contrast. ...

Re: 2nd run of Ujsm...any suggestions?

2nd run was fun. Ran it out slow over 4 hours. Had 6 gallons of wash at 8% and a gallon and a quart of 32% low wines. Drips came out at 152 proof . Drained the fores and collected some of what I think were heads. Collected in pint jars until 136 proof then switched to 8 ounce jars. Ran 4 8oz jars ti...

Re: Bourbon Whisky Mash

when running UJSSM there seems to be alot of debate on how much of a previous run to add to the pot on the next run. I am aware UJSSM does not reach its potential until about the 3rd or 4th generation of fermentation but as far as the distillate collected form the 1, 2, and 3rd run do you add into ...

Re: hi all im dirtynickels and ive been wondering??

Thanks hoodlumhooch and wannab. I alway start at 170 - 160 proof on every run I do on my potstill whether its molasses, fruit brandy or corn and grain. It usually holds at 170 -160 for a little bit and drop in proof slowly and once i hit 115 proof it almost crashes immediatly to 90 and i hit and tas...

Nice build i see that you ditched the 45 and went with the union on the horizontal to the downward 90  . I made the mistake of using a 45 now i have to go back and do some modifications like you did. Simple and well done!

I'm curious which method is preferred when doing multiple runs on a UJSSM or SF recipe. Do you prefer.... 1) Several stripping runs, saving low wines for a spirit run? or 2) Strip run #1, add that next time to the wash of #2, keep only the middle hearts, and save the outer limits to be added to the...

Love what you did with your potstill and the liebig condenser design with the gate valve. Is the bucket for recirculating the water with a pump? And did you build your own phase angle controller?
