Re: Jimbo's Wheat Flour AG Experiment
Sounds like a good idea. Even on a single 30A breaker and start low. Ramp slow and watch voltage/current. If you hit 30S by accident it will pop your breaker, not the end of the world

Re: How long before first success?
My first was an apple brandy from 3 gallons of cider I spent way too long juicing on a table top juicer after quartering the apples. It was good enough to get me to try again. Second was a pear brandy. Same laborious methods. It turned out amazing and hooked me. That was '96 or so. 25 years later an...

Re: Jimbo's Apple Thread
Here's another improvement underway. Going to install these pillow block bearings on the main shaft. Right now I have some copper flange bearings I made out of 1/2" copper pipe that I hammered flat and wrapped around the axel where it comes through the hopper. Been holding up ok for 6000+ lbs a...

Re: Jimbo's Apple Thread
Jimbo, did you get more juice out of the apples pressing with the 20 ton jack? Hey Cranky, yes absolutely. I went from about 2.5g per bushell (46 lbs) to over 3. Next step is to make the pomace finer, which shoudl be an easy fix by adjusting the screw heads closer to the drum. Im going to pull all ...

Re: Multi use apple press/grinder
The 20Ton press I bought from an auto shop for 100 bucks without a jack. Yes its easy to put the 20T jack on there, seemed to be made for it, fit perfectly. I made a slight adjustment to the jack plate so when the jack is fully retracted it puts very slight pressure on the jack and holds everything ...

Hi Bushman, Here's an update on the press I posted in my apple thread. Hi Corene! Long time! "If I knew a welder" HAHA! You funny. Hope you are well. Good to hear from ya! I bought a 20 Ton air driven hydraulic jack. It works great. Bushman, to the earlier chats on power, no issue. Thing i...

Ok thanks. I havent run it yet, wont have a chance until tomorrow. Still gotta be better than jackin that damn thing by hand a zillion times. I hope. Maybe have to do that last few pumps by hand, I can live with that.

Re: Multi use apple press/grinder
Bushman, where are you seeing comments about this 20T hyd jack being underpowered? Im not seeing that in the feedback. Its got 5 star avg review. At any rate, it has to be better than the 8T Im using.

Re: Jimbo's Apple Thread
Yes, fast equipment is key. I was looking at all aspects of the work to figure out teh bottlenecks. Jacking that damn manual jack was a KILLER, and the 8 ton press was leaving some yield behind. 2 biggest bottlenecks. So I fixed both. 20 Ton steel press frame and an air assist hydraulic jack will be...

Bushman, I see you have a hand jack manual 20T jack. If youre like me, you're plenty tired of jacking that thing off 20,000 times in a weekend. Look what I found (and bought). Cheapest Ive seen the 20 tonners. (assuming you have a compressor handy). https://www.vevor.com/products/air-hydraulic-bottl...

Hot damn Bushman. Thats some gallonage. Im just pushing 100g now. And did up another 40? or so for Windy last weekend battling the yellowjackets together out in the Indian Summer hot fall days. I just bought a 20Ton air assist hydraulic jack and a steel 20 Ton press frame. These apples dont stand a ...

Went nuts this weekend. Picked and pressed 1100 more pounds. 1500lbs so far this year. 75 gallons fermenting for brandy and ciders. Still have some trees to get to as well.

Re: Jimbo's Apple Thread
Hey friends. ITS APPLE SEASON and Ive decided 2021 is gonna be a year for apples. My trees are pretty loaded and I got lucky with a friend who owned an apple orchard, but carved it up and sold off 3/4 of it. Lucky for me he still has 6 acre lot for sale of forest and apple trees, about 30+ apple tre...

Re: Jimbo's easy 1/2barrel Wheated Bourbon and Gumballhead
Hey Morehu, giver a try. I do this scaled up recipe on autopilot now, did several runs over the past winter and put up about 20 gallons of assorted bourbons. 50 lbs cornmeal, 20 lbs malt, 30 gal water per below. US05 yeast. Gives me 25gal for the still at 10%. 2+ gallons for the bbl at 62% All grain...

Sounds like cherries are now ripe, Cranky it is always a tug a war with the significant other on how we use the fruit :sarcasm: Ahh I miss cherries. Nice work on the Solera SBB! BlueSasquatch, there's a long list of differences between chips/cubes and a bbl, not just the environmental exposure and thirsty angels. Here's a few off my head, but Im sure Im missing several Some bbl producers charge more for longer aged wood. Aging reduces tannins an...

Seems ages ago, and seems like yesterday too. Blink and a flippin decade shoots by. Yes still distilling, was mashing and distilling every Saturday throughout much of the winter.
