starting 1.070 finishing just under 1 and yes i followed the recipe to the t i did not have time to still so it sat in the fermenting bucket for a little over a month. i used baking yeast.

so i made the sugar mash and distilled and yelled about 3.5 liters of a neutral spirit. How much do i dellute the product to make vodka. about half and half? how much final product should you get from a 5.5 gallon run? this was my first run at this and just some basic questions

Do u have a good vodka recipe can't seem to find one. I normally brew beer so complexity not really an issue.

yes mashed all grains boiled for about 3 hours. I got the recipe out of a book i was reading on distilling. Not sure why you would boil for three hours unless your volume was crazy big and then you would need a huge boil kettle for it to reduce for three hours. Don't get me wrong, you can boil but ...

yes it did clear up.... i ran it through a brita and looks clear but i dont know prob shouldn't drink well next time i will make sure i was every thing after vinegar wash!

And yes the column was packed with copper netting the the coil at the bottom was alittle discolored

that sounds like how it went. i am guessing it is oxidation from the still?

no it did not sit long at all my guess is it is from the copper and the first time or something after letting it run a while it started comming out clearer and not it looks like water. i attached a few pics to show i think it is called a boka or something

I did throw some on a fire and it seems to be flammable... so if all else fails i have a fire starter recipe!

haha wasn't planing on it..... Just need to know what not to do for next time. or if i should run it through again when finished or just quit for today

Is blue normal!

Ok so i did a vinegar and water run and things went well now on to my mash run and the liquid coming out is blue is this from the copper? Or what could i be doing wrong?

Haha yea i found that out after my trip to the brew store the guy at the shop loves the stuff so i went with it. note to self lol

Ps it was only $4.54 haha but next time i look into different yeast. Also i am using a reflux still

Turbo Yeast?

How much turbo yeast do i use in a 5 gallon batch?

7 gallons distilled water
Used 7lbs wheat
3.5 lbs rye
3.5 lbs sugar

Finished about 5 gallons

haha yeah i did some research and i found the out! i am hitting up the hardware store tomorrow to get a new cap and i need to think of a new way to attach the pipe to the lid. Any ideas?

thank you both i got it done! is the an issue if the is a very small amount of light getting through between the bottom of the copper cap and the lid

New Pot Still!!!! Some Questions?

Just finished my first build just a question the copper cap I put on the SS pot lid is not flush on the lid there what looks like to be a very small gap where very minimal light gets through. Is this a problem?

Collector plate i need something that will catch the alcohol after hitting the reflux condenser. i saw something using a copper 1/2 tee but i dont know how to make it work

New to distilling...Ok I have a 2" column what is the best way to attach it to the SS Lid?

Also below my Reflux what should i use as a catch plate i have i cant find anything that will work the column is in t parts the condenser and the stack?
