Re: Water Source
Don't run hot water through an RO system! They are usually rated at 77 F at 60 psi. The upper limit for most membranes is 95 F. You are far better off using colder water than hot water if only given the choice between the two. You can always coil up some hose to allow the cold water to come up to r...

So if you use hot water from the water heater, should you fill a container and let it breathe for a few days? No, I grind the mill, place in 50 gal ss pot, fill container with hw, check ph, add 5.2 ph. Heat the mash to 175 let it cool, add alphaam at 150, add gluco at 130 let set overnight. Heat ba...

Are you running it through a sediment filter? Any treatment for chlorine or chloramines if applicable? Ever tested the TDS content of the water you get from the hot water heater vs cold water in your house? The water from my hot water heater (natural gas) is far worse to use than my cold water sour...

Re: Water Source
I need water. I did do a search but saw nothing with the word combos I used. I do not have a well or a spring anywhere around. (1) I have city water which is full of chemicals. Does anyone use it? (2) I can go to the dollar store and get jugs of RO water. Who does this. (3) So, I figured I'd ask. T...

I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything. Nikola Tesla

Love distilling
I have been distilling for around six years. I knew nothing when I started and this forum really helped me get started. I have made a lot of progress and just interested in getting back in the chat. I do love what I do.

Re: Refractometers and Methanol?
I have purchased methanol to test different methods of detection. When u add pp to methanol or fore-shots it releases an awful sulphur smell quiet detectable, where as your heads, hearts, tails don't have the sulphur smell. Try it yourself

Re: ideas for breaking down an azeotrope
I believe you could add calcium oxide after distillation which will react with the water but it will not react with the ethynol. Then u could filter it and u should have azeotropic solution

Prairie a little off subject but why can't u sanitize your barrels, bottles, still with some 90% heads or hearts

I blame it on the welfare system. The smart working people have about two kids because they have to pay for them. The dumb ass get checks and have ten kids. So if u strap a plow on all the strong well bred deer and let the retarded deer breed what will happen in a generation of deer. It's simple if ...

Re: First Couple runs
the best advice i got was from rad(cant believe im saying that) but it you assume you will get 50 ml fores, and 1/3 heads, 1/3 hearts, 1/3 tails. Catch the likker in small batches and let them sit out a couple of days. Maybe put a paper towel over it for a few days. smell it, taste it. One taste of ...

Re: Adding a different condenser
I have used pvc before. What I did was put female adapters into the the condenser and you can get a sweat ring, solder it to the copper and put teflon tape and tighten it down. You normally need to get the brass sweat rings at a wholesale supply house, but it does not leak and is very affordable.

Also I dont see why you couldnt bring your corn up to 212 when cooking it. Im quite sure that this would kill any mold even afloxin, also just like rad said it cannot survive the distilling process and if you are producing at least 70% abv you could use this to kill the mold. Its another attempt to ...

If your not selling likker and costing the government money, they are not going to raid your home for a forum. The government can trace everything, work and pay your taxes and don't sell no untaxed liquor and they don't give a shit. They are greedy thieves and as long as you don't steel from them, t...
