Re: RumBrewer's blurtings!

Some reason I keep waking up with that song I will wait by mumford and sons.. It's the banjo and stuffed columns- thinking up new designs.. Then right before I wake up I'm always in prison and stuffed columns takes on a new meaning.. Maybe it's my dad telling me I need to go back to what I know.. I ...

Re: Books about setting up a microdistillery?

The thing with small distilleries.. noticed anyway, it's hard to make it, least that's the way it is here.. There was one that opened up around 4 hours north of where I live and they had to buy all the equipment first, then it was inspected and finally they had a permit to make and sell their stuff....

Re: First time stillin

Yeah it's kind of a pain to make baijiu.. Like sake in a way, aiming for around 130 proof- You make the koji first which is a mold, grow it on short grain rice and stop it before it flowers.. Then mix it with soaked/steamed rice and let it sit.. The koji breaks down the new rice into sugar the yeast...

Re: Nothin but Taste

It's actually a work sink.. Around 20 gallons I'm guessing with a condensate pump Yeah the water will get pretty hot without some kind of active cooling running.. When running low wines through the fractionating still you almost need nothing to cool it down and can slow the flow down quite a bit (ke...

I've always wanted to go to Australia but my image of Elle Mcphersons walking around everywhere I'm sure is over exaggerated  j/k Yeah pot still is pretty simple to run.. Movers blanket here.. Works awesome.. Cheap too- cut it to size of your column and wrap, secure with twine.. The twine gives you a place to hang your digital thermometer too

Re: Greetings from China!

You can buy Baijiu (40-50% sorghum alcohol) here for almost cheaper than water - 5 liters is 5 pounds! Only problem is that it is foul undrinkable stuff that sends you loopy. I'm making a batch from scratch here.. Around 130 proof is what shooting for but I need a bulk supply of koji, having troubl...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

Got another 28 gallons of birdwatchers going this time with red star active dry yeast. It has a different smell to it than when using fresh cake yeast. Yeah lipdog what I noticed, it'll hit 1.01 fairly quick.. Like I start at 1.08 and about 9 days later it's 1.01.. Then it lowers around 0.002 a day ...

Re: mixing drink%

Yeah.. 65ml of bourbon would be 7.6% if added to 250ml coke

Get the amount in ml of alcohol: 65 * 0.37 = 24.05 ml
Total (All) mixed: 250 + 65 = 315 ml

Get the percentage: 24.05 / 315 = 7.6 %

About the filtering.. We use a 5 micron whole house filter and reverse osmosis under the sink for drinking water.. I was wondering.. If I had 20L fermented ready to strip and 5L of low wine that's been sitting for around 10 days with 5 tsp of baking soda mixed in.. If I added that 5L of low wine to the mash would the acid react with the baking soda and create ammonia? Is it better to not mix the two or is this o...

Yeah you can buy the stuff at the pool shop.. Couple gallons will run around 14 bucks.. It cleans rust off parts pretty good (when cold) but you should coat everything wi...
