Re: here's a story about loose lips and an idiot.
I quit over a situation like this--only worse--it was a family member instead of an employee. We had a falling out and he called the police telling them I was stilling. Nothing happened because I wasn't, but that was the last straw on a lot of things. If I ever start up again, my wife will probably ...

Re: Is it safe to buy from Mile High?
I purchased a column and condenser unit. OK. Thank you for answering that. I'm sorry for your troubles, but that I'm sure provides possible relief to a bunch of people who've bought other, non-still related equipment from them. Does anyone know of anyone (or them, themselves) getting a letter due t...

Re: Rubbermaid Brute for mashing?
I'm not sure about the temp thing. I'm sure some internet research would clear it up. I know that a lot of AG mashers use plastic coolers for mashing and I haven't heard of any problems with that. As far as color goes - I think the issue is with the makeup of the pigment used in coloring the plasti...

Rubbermaid Brute for mashing?
Sorry if this has been asked before. I did an HD Google search as well as a site search and didn't find an answer to this. It's my understanding that you can ferment in a Rubbermaid Brute garbage can and I've been doing that for a while now (I've heard from some that any Brute container will be safe...

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Had a bear knock over a garbage can I was using for grain storage and run off with a 50 pound bag of cracked corn. He (I assume it was a he... could have been a she though) also spilled out a bag of whole oats. So I'm currently malting the oats I was able to pick up off the ground. We'll see how it ...

Re: Spy Glass on the cheap to peer inside your device
About a decade ago I lived in an old house that had those type fuses and I'd have a very hard time finding them when one would blow. Wound up STUPIDLY using quarters instead (bad idea).
Cool stuff though max. Thanks for sharing this.

If that's indeed the case, then that makes a good point right there.sounder_4 wrote:As far as I know commercial distillers don't do a feints run, most likely for good reason.
However, I've heard some do feints runs and mark them as "special reserve." Don't know if that's true though.

Thanks mister P. I guess that answered the question. The sugars produced are just what the enzymes convert the starches too. Different enzymes will convert to different sugars. In a round about way.
Does that mean you could make high fructose oat (or insert grain of choice) syrup?

Corn a fruit?
I searched this forum (both on-site and Google) but couldn't find any topics on this. Is corn a fruit? I've heard that it technically was. But corn liquor does not taste like brandy, at all. But here's another question... Why is it called high fructose corn syrup if corn isn't a fruit? Yes, I've hea...

Re: Question about leftover stuff from fermenting or distill
I dump everything in the back yard. Most times it's gone by the next day. Deer, squirrels, and other wildlife love this stuff (even un-rinsed). In fact, I had a bucket with a thick layer of corn and yeast in the bottom that some squirrels chewed their way into through the lid to get at... and comple...

Let it settle, strain it, and give it a whirl. Worst it could do is taste bad. Nothing's living in 80 proof, so you don't have to worry about it spoiling. Let us know how it tastes (I personally would have tasted it off the bat).
Cheers!

Somehow drank a quart and a half(!) of UJ after a funeral recently. First time being hung over with good product with decent cuts. Although it very well could have been alcohol poisoning. Just goes to show that if you drink enough--even of "good" stuff--you will pay for it later.

Up until last month I would have said cracked corn is crack corn is cracked corn. Then that propionic acid thread popped up. Anyway, back on topic, it makes sense that whatever little amount of sunflower oil they spray on it would be less than the oil in the corn itself, as rad said in the other thr...

Probably more of an issue if you're making UJ style corn sugarheads than if you were cooking the corn for an all grain mash. Either way, I'm not one to care. I think the critters might even add something in the way of flavor. Or maybe I'm just lazy and cheap.

Thank you all for the comments. I think I should be good. Will just limit myself or cut the drinking out for a month and taper back on a bit. Good point about them healing with a little TLC. I had them myself some time ago and they went away pretty quickly with a little care and caution for a short time/ I was back to normal and still am today.
So yeah... don't be too discouraged about it.

Thanks Jimbo. Makes sense. Didn't even think of the other flavors and esters from the sugarhead. Just thought most of the alcohol made from sugar was stripped away, so it would be OK. But like I said, I haven't really noticed the difference in the few times I've done it (mostly it's the other way ar...
