considering the Grainfather was just released in North America a couple weeks ago, you'll have a hard time finding anyone with experience.

Re: Experience with a Grainfather with an Alembic top Potsti

take it easy boys, the grainfather is a nice piece of kit and with a few small mods can also make a nice still. Biggest hurdle will be the power control, everything else is easy. As far as a worm with ice, not a problem, the vapour is already collapsed, he'd be cooling liquid. although, I don't thin...

Re: Experience with a Grainfather with an Alembic top Potsti

sadly the grainfather does not have infinite control of power. The temp controller is that systems weakest point. a $17 temp controller on an expensive system. If you can figure a way to get infinite control you'll be fine. 2000 watts is fine for 25l. Brace yourself, folks are gonna jump on regardin...

Re: Deciding on recipes

you can do it the hard way and figure points per pound for each ingredient or just use an online recipe calculator for beer.
"How to Brew" is a great read that will get you started.

If you've got a fitting that slides right thru the hole just wrap a piece of copper wire around it and solder away. The copper wire will hold solder and as an added bonus it will stop the fitting from falling thru

30 amp Timer

hey all.... first off...THIS IS NOT FOR MY STILL I have a single vessel brewery that runs on 240 (5500 watt element) via PID. What I am wanting to do is be able to set a timer for the element to come on before I get out of bed so I'm at strike temp when I get up. PID would be powered up already and ...

Re: Stainless Steel vs Copper Mesh Scrubbers

You evidence tat in the bottom few inches if you care to look and clean the packing. But not beyond. Correct? I can for sure tell you that the copper at the top of a 36" packed column still turns black after a time. I've accepted this as normal and clean my packing avery 3-5 runs. Too easy.

pretty sure you'll find 400 more than adequate as a filter. My only concern would be the bubbles causing the element to be dry.
Ebay has some pretty reasonable prices on SS mesh

Re: Cover for Electric Element

just saw this the mesh in my Brew in a Basket system is 400 microns, you say you are using 50 microns. With the 400 Microns bubbles accumulate under the mesh during any boiling, these bubbles are able to pass around the outside of the basket no problem. Wort easily passes thru the mesh and I grind m...

the key to milling corn is to have the mill turning when the corn goes in. Your Barley Crusher shouldn't have any problem at all.

Re: 3" Nixon Stone still questions

guess I should have been more clear. I really wouldn't suggest a nixon stone still. I own one (2" column), it's incredibly slow. But, it really does a neutral well. I was more saying that if you're bent on it, it will do you well. A 3" should run at a reasonable speed Some of the guys have...

Re: 5500w SSR Heating Element Control Build

That will work. Best practice is to pigtail your grounds with a marrette connector by using a short piece of wire off each item requiring grounding. You will need one to the controller, one to the box itself that the controller is housed in and one to carry on to the keg. That little screw could get...
