Unless it smells like vinegar, I'd run it and see.
Maybe too much backset?

Re: 1st run proof question??
You got 10 gallons up to 175 in 20 mins? When you start getting likker out of your condenser turn the heat down to a small stream if stripping, or fast drip for spirit run.For spirit runs collect in small containers.I use 1/2 pint jars, and put only 200 ml in each. Some use 20+ jars, i usually use 15...

Re: mash airlock blow off :/ ??
+ 1 on not enough head space.... I have a 6.5 gallon carboy and only fill it up enough to leave 7 inches at least...if i have to use my 5 gallon carboy for fermenting i leave 7 inches for the first few days and then add more sugar water.. the amount of sugar water depends on how much i planned ahead...

Re: Gerber
I'm gonna try this recipe next...just went to wal mart, and i suspect the word is out in my neck of the woods. the whole shelf was bare of gerber barley...either the babies around here are some barley eating brats or i got some secret buddies around here. I got the mix grain box 8oz for 2 bucks. Smi...

Re: Sweet Feed Wash
Don't use the recipe in this thread... Go to tried and true section and use that sweet feed recipe. I'm thinking the poster that wanted 25% was told by someone, they should expect 25% finished product...like a 4 gallon wash should get 1 gallon drink...after cuts and proofing, not 25% alcohol I'm not s...

Re: Heat element instalation
I just remembered that i couldn't find a ss nut that fits a heater element, so I went with bolting a plate of copper over my hole and cutting another hole the same size in the copper then soldering a 1 inch threaded copper fitting that my element screws into to the copper plate...sorry if you can't ...

Re: Heat element instalation
You can cut ss with a hole saw, just go slow and don't over heat it... As for the o ring, wrap it with ptfe tape... I wrapped my rubber gasket for my corny keg,and it still looks like i did it yesterday. I looked at that site last night, it was very interesting...but way too expensive for me lol goo...

Keeping heads for next run
It's my understanding that the heads still contain bad things that add a sting to the taste and burn the nose... My question is if you continue to collect these for future runs, does it seem to make your heads cut grow larger with each addition? For example if i add a pint of heads and run, collecti...

Re: Will this mess up my cuts???
I'm just thinking out loud here, but maybe a exterior wrap of 3/8 coil from an inch or 2 above the take off up to the reduced pipe, hooked up to your condenser flow would knock that vapor down...If your worried about it. Edit : still thinking out loud, it may cool the inlet too much and keep the thu...

Re: Final product smells like bread
When i made beer, i would put the
6 gallon carboy on a spare frig after
fermenting and it would clear right
up...cold temps let things clear better.
