Re: Can someone please explain backset?

Saltbush Bill
You are correct. I was just asking to see if would or would not be recommended. I chose not to as to not mess with what was tried and true.

Re: Can someone please explain backset?

Hi, so I have some backset from a run I did in 2018. It’s been sealed in a jug since then. Today I’m doing a wash for “Gerber” recipe. Is it advisable to use that gallon of backset from the previous Gerber or just toss it? It has not been refrigerated or frozen. Just in a jug in my garage. Doesn’t s...

Re: Uncle Remus Rice Vodka

Hey guys, new to this. Looking to do a 5gallon run of this. I’m horrible with conversions. Anyone able to break down for me how much of each ingredient I’d need in imperial values? Such as rice/water/yeast/etc. thank you ahead of time

Re: Pot vs Reflux

Hi, I don't know if this is the best post to ask this but I am running a boka and everytime I try and reflux product comes out of my thermometer port. I am afraid this will run down and catch fire. How have you veterans done it to stop this from happening? I have been toying with closing the port up...

Re: Gerber

Hey guys, First off I'm very excited to now have run two gerber washes and everything went great! I ran my boka in potstill mode with no packing open valve beginning to end. I collected foreshots and everything else went into a gallon carboy. My question is should I run a spirit run (diluted of cour...

Re: Highest ABV to distill

So I'm a newbie an I just did my water run, my water vinegar run, yesterday i did my sacrificial run, and tomorrow I am about to do my first real run. It's gonna be a "gerber" wash I'm running the hydrometer shows it at 10% abv right now ( not sure if that's good or bad yet). It's been fer...

Re: Gerber

Thanks rad! I ended up submerging the entire bucket in my deep sink filled with hot water and it perked up almost instantaneously! I then dried off the bucket and rolled a batt of insulation around it. It seems to be happily bubbling away again! Very interesting how those little buggers are touchy l...

Re: Gerber

So went out to the garage and timed the bubbling. Maybe isn't going that slow? Maybe you guys can tell me? It bubbled 50 times in one minute. Slower than when it first started but that still seems pretty good right?

Re: Gerber

Thanks for the answer. I'm in Southern California and when I say cold, I mean 63deg. So I don't know if that qualifies as cold, but to me it's freezing! Lol! I did not check the sg yet because I though I was supposed to do that post fermentation and then I could maybe adjust it by taking a sample an...

Re: Gerber

Hey guys, I just did my first run on my boka! Ran the vinegar/water run thru it and everything was fine. I decided for my first run I would try the gerber! A few questions. 1- as my first sacrificial run do I have to throw the end product out or can I do a stripping run and use that to do a second r...
