Re: Strawberry Wine

So the strawberry wine turned out ok this time. Needs to age from what I hear. However, I used the lees to start some skeeter pee(lemon wine). It is excellent, strawberry lemonade @12% ABV. My fear is I won't have any left when summer comes, time to start some more soon I guess

He replied," Damn, i guess some asshole's got my ink pen."

+1 for hitting up the bakery, I'm cheap, I ask every time I'm in the grocery, makes me feel good the day they get through that bucket of white icing. sometimes they aren't cleaned, its a bonus, free sugar too:)

Re: Winows XP

I don't think I've ever used the Microsoft updates. I always just use a free anti-virus like the mentioned above. The main switch to Windows 7 is for businesses, for a personal PC, XP works great, they've figured out the bugs, like rad said, private vendors will support it until its obsolete. I agre...

Re: Weekend Vacation in WV

Thanks for the input. I will definitely call ahead when it gets closer, planning for the end of April. Hoping it won't be too cold to camp. Also looks like the place offers several different rafting options from really easy to class V rapids. They also offer a 3 zip line courses. @ Woodshed, I like ...

Weekend Vacation in WV

Hey, wondering if any WV members could tell me about the New River Gorge(Lansing WV?) and if it worth the long drive for a few days rafting and hiking in late April? Thanks in advance

Re: Brown Sediment, Stripping run

In my AG's I always get a bit of stuff to come out, kinda brown. I attribute it to puking, no biggie if you are going to run it again. I run them really fast, if I slow down it doesn't happen nar as much

Re: weird idea

I'm thinking have a length of pipe coming vertically from your thumper or boiler with a butterfly valve underneath to allow the botanicals etc. to drop down. Just have to turn it. Have the top of the pipe have a screw top or something so you could easily add the things and clean it

Re: Strawberry Wine

So I went ahead and strained the juice out, got almost 5 gallons from the 6 gallons of berries, and pastuerized it very slowly, then quickly cooled it. I made sure to get more oxygen in it this time and I added some more pectolase as well as nutrients and a small bit of yeast energizer. I made a hal...

Re: Has anyone left there worm unsupported in a flake stand.

They make good points. I'm a cheap bastard too but if you plan to build something better in the future you'll need to solder, so you'll have to buy(or borrow) it at some point. You can find a kit at the hardware store for like 30 bucks, probably online cheaper.. If you still don't want to, you can u...

Re: Has anyone left there worm unsupported in a flake stand.

I used the zip ties but some of them broke. I replaced with scrap wire I took the plastic off, put them through some holes in the side of the bucket around the worm and twisted em good and put on a wire nut. Caulked up the holes. No problems other than cosmetic, as it doesn't look "professional...

Thanks for the info. I decided to just start over with a better method so I've got 20 lbs of berries in buckets with pectic enzyme right now. Going to use Campden tabs instead of heating this time. I'm going to run the spoiled batch through the still next week.

Looks like it might be a bust. The wine has a sulphur problem and I'm not really sure how to get rid of it. I tried racking it a few times and adding some air as well as pouring it through copper. I read adding some hydrogen peroxide could help? I'm not willing to use copper sulfate, i'm worried to ...

Something like .85/quart after cuts for water and electric costs. Rest of the cost depends on what you pay for the ingredients.
