Dnder thanks for the pic of Popcorns setup but the one I seen wasnt like that because he had a fire built underneath it but maybe that was just for TV I know alot of the bigger operations heat that way but like I said this had a wood fire under it and also the pot wasnt that big it was probably 15-2...

I've seen steam setups with the steam pipes running through but this was a hole you could see thru in the middle of the pot

mtnshiner I like your setup I have done similar setups using rock and clay to surround the pot then the half barrel as a burn box. You're right about adding a chimney it creates a draft and draws the heat back and heats the pot and the fire doesnt even have to touch it. If someone wants to get an id...

dayhunt, it looks to me like your input linre to your thumper twists around the outside of your thumper and enters from the bottom. If im correct on that then I would think that the vapor would be cooling too much before it gets inside of the thumper so you would be putiing liguid and not vapor INTO...

Stainless steel pool filter Question

I have a used stainless steel pool filter and was wondering if it is safe to use as a pot? If so what should I use to clean it out with will vinegar and water work? I have tried searching the site but haven"t found anything useful yet. I appreciate anyone"s advice

OK Im attempting my first All Grain and so far so good I think. I started with 5 gals of water heated it to 175 degrees and added 5lbs of cracked corn and continued heating AND stirring till 200 degrees held the temp for 20 mins and then turned of heat and covered it up temp stayed above 175 for alm...

I use to use a vacumm pump on wine to help remove co2 and it worked very well. the wine would foam up and all the co2 would come out. I never considered trying it on distillates might try and see what happens

Ok, I was just wondering. Im probably not understanding the full implications with not having manufactured yeast my thinking is it wouldnt matter as long as we can get our mash workin lol.

the head comes off to fill it and I will install a slop arm to drain it. just havent done it yet and couldnt wait to show a pic of it. now I need to think about the thumper not sure if Im goin to build one or get a wood barrel. guess it depends on what I can find

I had a bunch of copper fortunately. it should be able to run 18 gals it will hold 22 gallons. the solder definetely took a bit more to heat up but worked great.

Try adding about 3-4 feet of tubing to end of condenser. Just make sure it is the right kind that is capable of handling the high alchohol content.

Thanks for the info. I've been using a keg ansd stainless for a long time now and just wanted to build an all copper still my grandfather gave me a design for one before he died and I would like to build it and put it to work lol
