Re: I love my still
Brain scans show people literally DO love the objects they own, at least the really important ones like cell phones and cars. You should love your still, no shame. I also love my pip boy. Built my still in vault 101 and hauled it all the way to meresti station ;) Bearriver should get thst...

I love my still
So I don't post a whole lot but I built my still from knowledge here about a year ago. This thing is so predictable and easy peasy to run. I usually do generational runs putting everything from one generation into the next and so on and after 3 generations I can tell you that the proof of the first ...

Interesting I have a big ole juniper bush in my backyard and I love gin so I have been looking longingly at it so I appreciate the write up. Not familiar at all with infusing so I'm interested to see the feedback here.

Re: Alternatives to using Ice water for condenser cooling
I have my coil in a 5 gallon bucket and my cooling water in a garbage can beside it. I out a small fountain pump in the garbage can and pump it into my condenser then a drain at the bottom returns it to the garbage can. It takes a good 6 hour run before the water heats up and I have to introduce mor...

Re: worm question
I have a very similar setup from what I can tell except I have 10' of 3/8 coil as my worm. Honestly the 3/8 works great for me. Mine was the per coiled in a box as well and I just carefully rewound it around about a 10" pipe then put spacers in between the coils and mounted it in a 5 gallon buc...

Re: Using Backset
" I threw in some bicarb" if it was sodium bicarb, yeast don't like that either ,that is the sodium part. most times you can git away with some but if to much it can slow or stall. sodium in yeast bread works as a "regulator" that is it slows the yeast and the yeast produce smal...

Re: Using Backset
On my recent rum run by the 3rd gen I was worried that it was getting to acidic so I threw in some bicarb. However lacking test strips I think I overdid it and the ferment stalled. The end product still came out great just a little lower abv than I had planned. Long story short its worth investing i...

Re: Some questions
One more thing toluene is a skin irritant so if you use it wear rubber gloves. If you get it would on your arms or anything like that it burns pretty good for a few minutes. Last week someone set down a rag at work that was soaked in it then picked it up. I sat down on that spot and my honey was on ...

Re: Flavoring a large amount of rum
Update time. I filtered off all the flavoring and set it up for some long term aging on just the oak. That's the plan anyway....I just can't seem to stay out of it! Holy crap its good! Smells amazing tastes even better even at 100 proof its very smooth when mixed with coke or my favorite Dr pepper. ...

Well if you're familiar with a stripping run why not s spirit run....
Anyway dilute it to 40% and run it all again as a spirit run. Do your cuts and enjoy

Re: My First Hook Rum
To be honest I had little knowledge of what type of animal ate molasses. In England the cows are served up their own poop with some straw mixed in. It's digusting, but one good thing about it is we sell our beef to the French. Hahaha poetic justice right there! You can find different kinds of molas...

Awesome thanks for the links guys I can always count on HD. Re: Flavoring a large amount of rum
Just filtered it off and picked out as much of the clove as I could find. Kinda hard to find it mixed with the wood chips. While I was at it I poured off a finger on ice. Getting plenty of vanilla smells and flavors and the citrus is starting to come through. I'm really thinking that this is going t...

Re: Flavoring a large amount of rum
Its been going just over 24 hours and as I gave it its daily stir I tasted it and honestly its not to shabby. I think you guys might be right on the cloves though. I think I might give it one more day then filter it and try to get as much of the Clove out as possible then let it sit a total of 2 wee...

Re: Thank you homedistiller.org
Just gonna clarify cause it seems like you're on the right track but maybe just using some incorrect terminology. Fore shots you want to ditch all together. The heads and tails you can keep for an all feints run later or you can add it all to your second run heads hearts tails and all just make sure...

It should work just fine as long as you figure out a good way to clamp the lid on.
As for the thermometer it doesn't matter where its located because its a pot still you need to forget it exists at all.
