Re: Welding my ss ferrule to copper pipe

Back to the original question. A stainless Ferrell can be tig welded to copper quite easily. No filler required, just fusion weld it, keep most of the heat on the copper. One would would think that the copper could take a ton of heat once you start, but you have to be careful not no burn it. Get ha...

Thanks Empty, Crow and Wannab. Bushman, you are welcome to stop by the shop anytime, I can't be responsible for showing you my bad habits though..
Got it put together yesterday and did some cleaning runs, plates loaded nicely and looks to be a good runner.

Re: Copper/stainless modules

That looks great.  Did you get equally good penetration on both materials? Concentrated the heat on the copper and let the puddle consume the stainless, took at bit to get the hang of it but am amazed how well they flow together. OK I need more details if you can. Gas, electrode type a...

Copper/stainless modules

There have been a few threads on the site about welding copper to stainless. A fellow member "Bentstick" sent me some four inch copper a while back and have been waiting for the time to work on some modules. Because I am cheap, I am using stainless ferrels, and have decided to tig them tog...

Re: New TIG welder

A lot of people think that a good weld has to have filler material added. There is another method that I suggest you might try called the fusion method. No filler material added. Most of the computer chip plants employed this method cause it is so clean. Although it is a computer driven process call...

Re: New TIG welder

I have the tungsten sticking out 3 times its dia. in other words 3/16 on a 1/16 tungsten and a #5 cup. The cup is in the way and I can't see the weld puddle worth a crap. I'm thinking about getting a gas lens, so the T can stick out farther and I can see what's happening better. Also thinking about...

Re: Smearing with a Parrot

I do accept that smearing is a part of distillation. It is the the nautural scientific process of a solution, changing as the concentrations change and nothing is ever constant. The difference is I understand the ammount of smearing going on in my parrot and I can manage my cuts accordingly, versus...
