Re: After airing out
Also one more question,I aged some on oak for 4 /5 months then strain through a coffee filter, and still after it sits for a few days I have charcoal settle in bottom of bottle.
Is this normal,or is there a better way?

Re: After airing out
I do use coffee filters and the jar ring screwed on ,and the temp I dont take a reading on ,but seem pretty close.
When it comes out at 140,after 24 hours its about 132 or 134%.

Re: help with mash
From what I read on the home site, for every 10 lbs of grain you need at least 1 lb of malted barley for conversion .
Barley malt is the most powerful is that right ?

Re: help with mash
So you make a post asking what's wrong with your mash. Don't include that you added any malt. In the first post. Then say oh yea I added a handful at a few different temps. Still not saying how much used. Hell we don't know if you have baby hands. Or bigfoot hands? It sounds as if you are malting y...

Re: fore shots
On a 12 gal run on that set up,say after the pint of fore shots is tossed and you got 8 quarts of keeping stuff. The first qt.at 140 pr. the 8th qt.at 80pr. then a couple qt.at 65pr. and 50pr. for tails. Would you blend the 8 qts. with water to get the proof you want say 80 to 110 for drinking, or l...

Re: sweetfeed whisky
when you add new feed for the second gen ,do you heat it first to like 150 let it cool to about 90 then put it in the fermenter?
Or do you just put it in the fermenter on top of the old mix and then add the water and sugar?
thanks

Sounds alrite. you can make cuts and blend or since you're using a pot still combine it all. and proof back to lower than 40% for a spirit run which will yield a slighty less flavorful but cleaner product. your call Thanks midwest shinner, If I combine all of it and cut it back to 40% with water,is...
