Re: UJSSM - How old is too old?

If I squeeze a little burp out, it smells like normal... guess I'll just give it a whirl this weekend!

Re: My still and first ferment

Don't know if you are still hanging around these parts, but if so, how'd everything end up? Did you wind up with some quality 'shine?

UJSSM - How old is too old?

So, somewhere in the process of jumping into home brewing with both feet, between juggling several batches of beer, mead, wine, and shine, I stashed away a 5-gallon bottle of 1st generation UJSSM and forgot about it. So, here I am nearly 6 months later with a nice 5-gallon bottle of fermented...

Re: Hello, I'm new to this hobby and thought I was ready bre

Might be a yeast problem. What kind did you use, exactly? You need to make sure you aren't using the deactivated/dead yeasts that are sold as nutritional supplements or for flavoring. What temp is your fermenting vessel? If you have it in a colder area, it may take longer to get started. Also, you r...

Re: Make money selling copper pot stills?

This site may be a good one to investigate: http://www.ttb.gov/spirits/faq.shtml#s4 Particularly Section 4: "S4: What requirements are there for people who sell stills? Under regulations in part 29 of title 27, Code of Federal Regulations, TTB has the right to require manufacturers of stills to...

Re: My still and first ferment

That looks like a 1-gallon pot still from Whiskey Still Co. They make a great product, really a gorgeous work of art that also works just fine. A few buddies of mine run the 10-gallon versions, and they work swell. I just picked up one of the 2.5 gallon rigs, and am on my 2nd gen of UJSSM (I was all...

Re: Another Colorado Mountain Noob

Nice to see another Coloradan on board!

My next purchase will definitely be something from MHD. I was very close to getting one instead of the pot still I got from Whiskey Still Co., but I saw a buddy's WSC pot still in action and really liked what I saw.

Good luck, and see you around the boards.

Re: Colorado Rocky Mountain Salutations

Thanks for the suggestion! I was actually originally planning on starting with a UJSSM, but then I noticed the Birdwatcher's recipe and thought it looked a little easier. I already picked up a 50lb bag of cracked corn, so I might just go back to the original plan. I'm a whiskey man, anyhow :D

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

Greetings! After sifting through the ~5 years worth of posts in this thread (!), I'm ready to attempt my first ever ferment and distillation. Before I begin my fermenting, I have a few questions. 1) I will be using a 6-gallon carboy with an airlock (I'll be getting some buckets in the near future), ...

Colorado Rocky Mountain Salutations

Long time lurker, first time poster: hello! I've monkeyed around a bit with brewing beer, and finally decided to pick up a small pot still and try my hand at distilling. Distilling water and essential oils, of course, since distilling alcohol would be illegal and I would never do that. :an...
