Re: 3" vs 4" LM column?

All good feedback. I think I will save my $$ for now and go 3". It would be a quick build and allow me to do more research into building a flute longer term as $$ allows and knowledge is gained.

Re: 3" vs 4" LM column?

Thanks folks! I will start the sourcing activity then. Being somewhat cheap I dont want to pay top dollar for things! Googe what size fitting did you use on your Sankey? I could go with my existing 2" and flare it or go with a 3"or 4" welded on instead. Any issues in sticking with the...

3" vs 4" LM column?

Hi gang, Been running my 2" LM column for a couple of years and had alot of fun with it. It sits on top of a sankey just fine. Am thinking of upsizing to either a 3" or 4" of similar design. Mine is based on Smiley's book and there are some things I would tweak. If I go 4" I woul...

Re: guidance on cuts for high ABV?

actually I have a still based upon the Ian Smiley book and thought temp would have been a good indicator but it was pretty constant. Any thoughts on what to do next time to tune it up? I am happy with my product per se....maybe not the most efficient method hence trying to understand more. It will t...

guidance on cuts for high ABV?

Gang, From my sugar wash and mead I did not like I did the beer stripping and ended up with 13L of 50% ABV. Then I ran it again and ended up with 4L of 92% ABV, approx 1.5L of foreshots and heads. Still have about 1.5 L of ethanol in there I will redistill next big batch. But for those looking to ma...

Re: beer stripping stats?

That would be great!

I am too lazy to drive to town and buy a proof hydrometer to test but will tomorrow forsure to see what is coming out.

I sealed up the lid a bit better with a nice gasket and it is much faster on the second carboy today!

beer stripping stats?

Hi folks, Assembled my compound reflux still today and ran the first 20L of sugar wash through it and ended up with 3L of low wines. Of course for fun I just let it go, no notes and no equillibrium. Anyone have a sample table of: time - temp - volume collected of a previous stripping run I can compa...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

 Hi folks, Been a homebrewer for years and now moving on to fermenting everything else! Just pitched yeast tonight on 10G of this recipe. My first time at anything like this and hopefully I will end up with some nice liquors. Not much of a hard alcohol fan. I ended up using EC1118 cause I hav...
